This weekend, I attended the state conference for the TXGenWeb County Coordinators and volunteers, near Dallas. In addition to meeting some of my fellow Texas county coordinators, I attended some great presentations. Leigh Compton provided some useful tips on webpage enhancements and digital photos. One of her recommendations was a web application called jclicker. I decided to play around with it some this evening. You may recall that the Charter Oak Election Day celebration took place last weekend as part of the Bell County Sesquicentennial events. I attended (only saw one other blue ribbon!) and took several pictures at the old charter oak tree, the courthouse, and the picnic. There is a slideshow presentation of 21 of these pictures at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txbell/sesqui1/ You must have a java-compliant browser (recent versions of IE or Netscape will do, probably above version 4) to view this. This is just an experiment and likely will not be permanent. The images have been reduced in size, but still make take a little while to load with a slow connection. I may create a text index of the pictures later this week for those with older or non-standard browsers. The final photo project I am working on will probably use standard HTML and thumbnail previews, so that the photos can have searchable descriptions. Enjoy! Joe D.
