There are now more details available online concerning the Charter Oak Election Day celebration coming up on April at: http://www.vvm.com/sqc/charteroak.html This event is one in a series of events taking place as part of Bell County's sesquicentennial celebration. "It will commemorate the election held under the shade of the Charter Oak Tree in April 1850 when voters affirmed that they wanted to proceed with forming their new county. The state of Texas had authorized formation of Bell County in a law that went into effect on January 22, 1850, and now area voters had to demonstrate that it was their desire to create their new, local government." I believe we had discussed wearing a blue ribbon to the event to signify a subscriber to this Bell County Rootsweb discussion list. I plan to wear mine. I hope to see others do so as well! Joe D.
