This is the info for the 9:30am event from the Charter Oak website: ----------- BELTON take Waco Rd from East 6th (turn between Texaco and Exxon gasoline outlets), drive to and cross the Leon River Bridge, about 1/4 mile beyond the bridge turn into the first gate on the right. TEMPLE take Charter Oak Rd turning west on the road behind Tranum Buick, drive to within about 1/4 mile of the Leon River Bridge, turn left into the gate. The Charter Oak Tree is on land belonging to the Brazos Electric Cooperative. This event will commemorate the election held under the shade of the Charter Oak Tree in April 1850 when voters affirmed that they wanted to proceed with forming their new county. The state of Texas had authorized formation of Bell County in a law that went into effect on January 22, 1850, and now area voters had to demonstrate that it was their desire to create their new, local government. BRING YOUR OWN LAWN CHAIR or BLANKET as there are no seats available otherwise. The program will last approximately 45 minutes. ---------------- Information on all the day's events can be found at: http://www.vvm.com/sqc/charteroak.html I am trying my best to make it to the 9:30 event, but I will have to leave Dallas pretty early to do so. I will definitely be at the other three events. Still looking for a blue ribbon to wear. (Has to be one that looks ok on a guy...heh.) Joe D.
