J. T., Elmira, and Joseph Brown were originally buried at Liberty Hill Cemetery, according to Resthaven Cemetery records. Resthaven was opened in 1952 and the bodies moved from Liberty Hill and other rural cemeteries in the area when the government bought land for the Belton Lake and to expand Fort Hood. The land where the Liberty Hill Cemetery was is not under water, but is part of the Fort Hood Recreation Area now. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jo To: TXBELL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, June 05, 2006 9:18 PM Subject: Re: [TXBELL] Cemeteries and Historical sites; Trans Texas Corridor Hearings scheduled Does anyone know how I can find the information to determine if my great aunt and her husband and son who are buried in Resthaven were originally buried in this cemetery or if they were relocated to this cemetery due to the construction of Fort Hood or the Lake. Elmina Brown 1846- 1910, her husband Joseph Brown 1836 -1904, and J. R. Brown 1878 - 1936. Joe and Elmina married in Arkansas before Joseph and some of his relatives reported for duty in the Union Army. They moved to Texas between 1870 & 1880. I found some information in the census but have not been able to identify the children. William, Nancy, Mary & Hiram J. The childrens name differed in every record I find. I think they may have had two or three names plus the surname, and/or the family called them by various names. At any rate I'd like to find some records to document the information I have and perhaps lead to some new discoveries; Thanks for any information you can provide.
