    3. Ms. LeJeune: Belton wasn't one of the towns moved or abandoned because of the creation of Fort Hood. It was too far east to be affected. Some (but I'm sure not all) of the towns that were moved or abandoned were: Ruth Spring Hill Antelope Cold Springs New Hope Palo Alto Sparta Friendship Clear Creek Bland Sugar Loaf Okay Pidcoke Brown's Creek Hubbard Schley Brookhaven Turnover Reese Creek Boaz Willow Springs Tama Stampede Harmony Seattle Eliga Ewing Some communities were affected by the initial 1942 "take order" and some were later affected as the post expanded during the 1950s and 1960s. The cemeteries included community cemeteries and small family cemeteries. All but approx. 15 cemeteries were moved to surrounding towns. Those still on post may still be visited, although some can only be visited on Memorial Day. Let me know if I can provide any additional info! 3. Most of the graves that were moved in 1942 were buried in Killeen, Gatesville, and Copperas Cove. The ones moved from Brookhaven, Liberty Hill and Sparta areas about 1954 were moved to Resthaven Cemetery in Belton. ----- Original Message ----- From: Amanda Thompson To: txbell@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, March 02, 2007 1:15 PM Subject: Re: [TXBELL] Belton map 1881 Ms. LeJeune: Belton wasn't one of the towns moved or abandoned because of the creation of Fort Hood.
