Just received news that Moffat Cemetery has now been designated a Historical Texas Cemetery. I believe this is only the fifth one so far for Bell County. (Shamefully, I have been working on one for over a year...heh.) Please join me in congratulating these folks for their accomplishment! The Moffat Cemetery located on the North side of highway 36 just East of Lake Belton has now been designated a Historical Texas Cemetery by the Texas Historical Commission. The Affidavit of Dedication for Cemetery Purposes was filed with the County Clerk in Belton on Tuesday, October 28, 2003. A plaque and medallion will be made and a dedication is being planned for after they are installed. The cemetery has some 1400 plus graves which include veterans from the Civil War, World War I, World war II, Korean War, & Viet Nam War. The oldest marker found is dated in 1861 with many unmarked graves, possibly older. For more information, contact Wm. A. [Steve] Stephens, president, Moffat Cemetery Assn. 14100 Moffat Rd.
