There is currently no organized cemetery association involved in preserving the East Belton Cemetery. Anyone in the community (living in the area) interested in forming such an association is requested to contact me as soon as possible. There may be an opportunity to obtain funds for perpetual care and historic recognition for this cemetery ... but this involves a deadline coming up soon. Please let me hear from you if you have ancestors in this cemetery ... even if you cannot participate in the formation of an association. The services of a lawyer who is willing to work pro bono or on a contingency basis to preserve this historic black cemetery will also be needed. Would you like to volunteer or recommend someone? Thanks! Linda Crannell
Are your familiar with Dennis Cryer, a volunteer who occasionally cleans up East Belton Cemetery? He was featured at one time on Texas Country Reporter. I have contact information if you need it. I have also post quite a few photos from that cemetery: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txbell/cem/ebelton/ Good luck with the project. If you find such a lawyer, let me know. I am working on a cemetery association for another old cemetery close to that one. Joe D.
