The WWI draft Registration cards list a Gus Wauer in Milam County, TX. The 1920 US Census show a Gus Wauer in San Angelo, Tom Green County, TX where he was a bill clerk for the Santa Fe RR. The census also listed him as widowed. Then the Texas death records have him listed as born Feb 21, 1890 and died July 8, 1971 in Bell County. I hope these tidbits of information will be helpful in your continued search.

    3. The Oklahoma State GenWeb Project has two divisions. One is designated "IT", for "Indian Territory". You can get to the sites by either going through the Ok State pages or going directly to IT and finding the Indian Nation you want to search. Your nation is there and also listed as part of a five nation confederation. I found some of the "Oral Histories" to be much more enlightening than a simple chart with names and birthdays and such. Oral histories usually contain name changes which appear to be a common practice among many Indian folks. You should be able to read about name changing practices on the Ok website. If you haven't read about the tribe you are researching you may want to go to the Ms GenWeb Project. There is quite an interesting history there, including how the tribe ended up in Ok. They were not the sort of tribe one sees in the movies or on TV. In fact, they were far more advanced than their European neighbors in early Mississippi. Have fun. There is some great stuff on the net!
