I do have about 20 photographs from the Little Flock Cemetery that my father took that I can send. And 4 or 5 from the Resthaven Cemetery. I can tell from previous searches that the records for divorces are in the District Clerk's office instead of County Clerk's. Also, the records are all handwritten and in big books so you have to go through page by page. I never found the one I was looking for before. You might try contacting Mike Kelsey in the reference dept. at the Temple Public Library. He knows so much about Bell Co. and the residents and his wife will sometimes do look-ups. They have written several books on Bell Co. and Texas.

Would you be willing to do a lookup at the Courthouse in Belton? I need to know about a divorce between William Young and Florence Young in 1903. I got the year date of the divorce from a list of divorces posted on the Bell Co US Genweb site. The person who posted the list says that there are packets with more details at the courthouse. I am trying to determine if these are my great-grandparents and am willing to pay for the copies, etc. If you can do this lookup for me, email me directly and I'll give you more information and we can make arrangements. Thanks . -Dot Young

    1. [TXBELL] Texas State Policeman Jim Smalley, d. 22 Jan 1871
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Smalley, Hardin Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.bell/3547/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. In a well documented incident, outlaw John Wesley HARDIN was arrested in Longview for horse theft from Waco, McLennan County. State Police Lieutenant E. T. STAKES, Private Jim SMALLEY and a volunteer L. B. ANDERSON were transporting HARDIN to Waco. On 22 Jan 1871 (either in McLennan or Freestone Counties) STAKES and ANDERSON left to get food for the horses when HARDIN pulled a concealed pistol and killed SMALLEY. The 1870 census for Belton County reports a J. SMALLEY, 45, born about 1825 in Illinois. His wife was named Mary, 33, and they had three children, Andrew, 19, Clementine, 15, and John, 11. If this SMALLEY is the correct person, I am interested in any personal history, place of burial, date of birth, full name, etc.
