The type of information I hoped to glean from this list was suggestions on where to go or who to ask for help in locating records. For example: My gggrandmother purchased a burial plot for her brother in Feb. 1930 from the Temple Cemetery Company (I have a copy of the receipt). Does anyone know if this company still exists and if not, has it been absorbed by someone else. I have very little information on this side of the family and hoped to locate some burial records which might be of assistance. You ask what we would like to see in your reports. I would like to see stories of our Bell County Pioneers. Historical markers have been installed on buildings, bridges , schools and cemeteries through out Bell County. List them one by one and discuss them for us. Thanks, Reba
For All Subscribers: It's occurred to me, as the TXBELL Listowner, that one of the things I've NOT yet done (since there are 17 of you already!) is ask YOU folks what sort of "tone" you think the list ought to take... what would be of the most help to you (consensus)? When I set the list up I had in mind to provide a forum where subscribers could talk about resources they've found helpful. Where queries of a general nature could be asked (surname/people-specific need to go to the Query Board). Where maybe some of the history of Bell County could be presented and discussed (history is caused by people equals genealogy source). The Queries Board has over 350 questions people have had about specific folks here in Bell County... but not a lot of responses... and I'm wondering if that's because perhaps not a lot of Bell County information is in the public's hands where they can get to it.. which is the purpose of the Bell County Genealogy page from which you subscribed to this list! What would you folks like to see? What would be helpful to you, and not duplicate what the Query/Obits/Bios/Deeds/Wills/Pensions/Bibles Boards are provided to do? It has been a big help. > Gwen Boucher > > http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnstewar/genkin.htm Hi, Gwen & other TX researchers! You are welcome! This message just came in from another list I am on, & has some good info. on the same subject: Re: [TATE-L] "Random Acts of Kindness" Rootsweb URL From: Tate1899Shells@webtv.net I am a volunteer on this list. We are not supposesd to ask for money to do any lookups. Except for maybe the cost of printed copies, video copies and postage. Not for any travel expenses or for time involved. If anyone ask you for anything else please let the list owner know about them. Anyone that wants can volunteer their time to look up information for those that cannot get to your local library, or for those that live out of the county, or state. A volunteer can do this as often as they like, but at least once a month. It is a good thing! When I first discovered this site I wrote a very nice person and received an answer to one of my questions right away. And it was about my TATE line. I figure if it is passed on to each person then we can all help eachother in one more way...so I joined in to help anyone that is looking for information in Brazoria Co., Texas. It is a good site. Hope everyone on this list visits it. Not all areas are covered since it is so new, so join in and volunteer your help if you can. I know without volunteers in this field there would be alot of information lost to alot of searchers... Good luck.... When you reply to my message will you please send enough information of my original message to you so that I will know what we are talking about? I have webtv and no printer. It is the only way I have to keep track of my mail for now. If this is a problem, please ignore this message. Thank you! Rebecca at: Tate1899Shells@webtv.net
http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnstewar/genkin.htm Have yall seen this site for look-ups, etc.....Note: it does say "lookups at cost", so it may not be entirely free to the user, I don't know. It IS thru Rootsweb though so we know it is reputable! They offer very definate things for different counties. Send any questions to your Listowner or to the Webmaster at the site itself rather than to me; I know nothing. haha ~ Cami ~

Hey Researchers ~ Try these: http://lds-online.com/family.htm http://www.LDS.org/en/2_Whats_New/Whats_New.html It reads like they will be adding slowly, & some decisions are yet to be made. (The websites are working. If you have a question, e-mail their webmaster directly from the sites.) ~ Cami ~
Looking for ANY help on information concerning JimmieLee (Moore) Palmer. We have virtually hit that BRICK WALL in Genealogy searches!! Born JimmieLee Moore, she is my great grandmother. I believe born in Bell county in 1889, she married Hasting Palmer, (b. TN 1882, d. 12/17/1922 in Temple, TX). They had five children all born Temple, TX: Wilburn William, b. 9/8/1912, d. 6/26/1996, Mildred, b. 2/21/1914, d.?, MamieLee, b. 5/20/1917 in Belton, still living, Florence, b. 1/22/18, d.?, Gladys, b. 11/2/1920, d. 11/2/1990. By MamieLee's faint recollection, JimmieLee may have had siblings by the names of Robert (as remembered Uncle Bob), Cody (Aunt Cody/Codi), and William (Uncle Bill) Moore. My father also remembers Uncle Bob, Uncle Bill and Aunt Cody and that they lived together and were never married. JimmieLee took ill and was in a local nursing home and then sent to Austin State Hospital and we believe she died there in 1926. MamieLee distinctly remembers Uncle Bob coming into the room at his house where she and Florence were playing and saying, "Hush up, your mama just died". Since JimmieLee's children were still quite young and Hasting had passed away a four years prior, (Wilburn was 14, Mildred 12, MamieLee 9, Florence 8, and Gladys 6) they were sent to live with relatives (I believe separately) and much information was lost and/or forgotten. I only wish I began this project before my grandfather, Wilburn, passed away in 1996. At that time I did not know of ANY of his sisters, let alone the fact that MamieLee was alive and living in Louisiana (She was actually in Waco at the time of his death!). I have since made contact with one of MamieLee's daughters, Laverne and neither of us have been able to find any further information in our family history research on JimmieLee (Moore) Palmer. If anyone has any information we would GREATLY appreciate your help !! Roselyn
You may find a MOORER message in your TXBELL mailing list stuff. It has been transferred to the Query Board for Bell County, and the sender has been so notified. Researchers ~ The note I received about the LDS on-line did not give a time of day; just that some would be available beginning on March 1st. I received the following from Mr. Tate ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ I just received this message ref LDS Family Search Internet access. I believe the date will be either April 12 or April 19th for the Beta version. Jim Tate ~~~~~~~~~~ So, if you or I need the Beta version, we will have to wait until mid-April. If you don't need the Beta-Version, or don't know, I guess keep trying the URL ~ http://www.familysearch.org But, that's really ALL I know! Thanks, Jim Tate, for the additional help! ~ Cami ~
Received this today from Dennis. Could be worth checking out (remember not today {Sunday} but beginning on Monday.) Remember it is only an IDEA I am passing along; not a promise. ~ Cami ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beginning March 1st, the LDS church has decided to release Family Search to the internet for a 3 week trial basis at: http://www.familysearch.org They would like everyone to try it out and respond! Happy day! We aren't certain exactly how it will be laid out. May only start with a few of the programs...but it's a start! This includes (if ALL of Family Search is included) Ancestral File, IGI, Scottish Parish Records, SSDI, Fam. History Library Catalog (wow) and Korean and Vietnam Death Index. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
