    1. [TXBELL-L] Query Board Responses

    3. Howdy Listers... If you don't already have a bookmark to the Bell County Query Board, please consider adding one. Not all queries folks have get to the TXBELL list, and you can do a real service by checking on occasion to see if you can directly help someone with an information request! Try: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Bell? You may have info someone can use, or some ideas of where they may try. Not being from Bell, I don't have a lot of info, but the entry of The Story of Bell County, and the related Biographies Board postings, are helping me get a better idea of early names and history (check on that effort at: www.rootsweb.com/~txbchc) Hope you're getting some useable info from the pages. Watch for the Sesquicentennial Committee to have a page active at www.vvm.com/~sqc sometime around June 25th. VVM is sponsoring the web page management for the SQC committee, and there will be more SQC material there. When it opens, the SQC-specific material from the Bell County Historical Commission page will be either removed or moved to a sub-page of some sort. I failed to tell you my only Surname in Bell Co. at this time is SMART possibly GLASGOW. But I think the Glasgow was in McLennan Co around Waco. The Reunion you talked about on the 4th Sunday of June at the Gober Place in Temple. Is that still going on? If so, is it possible you could put me in touch with someone connected to that. Thanks so much for your information. And Thanks for your offer to go to the Cemetery. That would be great. Just don't get caught behind a herd of skunks. Shirley Garrett

    1. [TXBELL-L] ALLISON - COWAN - NAPIER
    2. Joe O. Rogers
    3. I am researching George Washington ALLISON, my great-great grandfather. We have found no trace of his parents. He was born in GA in 1848 and appears to have gone West to AR and TX with the family of William Flemon COWAN. He married one of Cowan's daughters, Sarah Arkansas COWAN. Family stories indicate that GW ALLISON and at least one brother were orphaned and lived near Salado with a family named NAPIER. We find this family in the census with children of other surnames but no ALLISONs. The COWANS moved from AR to Williamson COunty TX in 1863 and later to BELL County. In 1874, the COWANS began moving to Katemcy in Mason County. GW Allison moved to Kempner and then to Katemcy. If any researchers have information on these families, I would very much appreciate receiving it. Best regards, Joe O. Rogers P.O. 3. Well, it looks like I will finally be visiting Bell County tomorrow (Wednesday) to research my Deaver ancestors. Apparently, many of them are buried at the Taylor Valley Cemetary. I plan to also stop by the Belton Library, museum, and county clerk's office. Hopefully, I can fit all that into one day! In case anyone is curious, my ancestors from Belton were John Hamilton Deaver and Mary Elizabeth Deaver (maiden: Henry). Their daughter, Texas Clementine Deaver, was my great grandmother. I believe she was born in Belton in 1869. Joe D. Deaver jdeaver@eaze.net

    1. [TXBELL-L] Elijah and Sarah J. GORE
    2. Mike
    3. I have just found a possible link to my missing Confederate relative, Elijah Gore! A Sarah J. Gore is listed in the Confederate Pension Records as the wife of Elijah GORE, living in Bell County at the time she applied for a pension. Elijah was born in 1831 in Bradford County, PA and was in the South at the start of the War. Against the wishes of his family, he signed up with the 1st Louisiana Cavalry and served valiantly under Col. Scott. In 1863 he was captured and spent the rest of the War in Yankee prisons. He had no apparent contact with his family after the War and they presumed he was dead. This spring I found a reference to him in Yandell Hospital in Meridian, MS at the end of the War and the trail had stopped there. AS far as my research has taken me, my Elijah is the only Elijah GORE who fought for the Confederacy. AS you may tell, I am quite excited to have found this reference. I have sent off to the State Archives for this record to verify it is him.....in the mean time, I am requesting any leads that you may know of to further my search for Elijah....any local records of Confederate Veterans, local historians who could help, local cemetery records that I could search....etc. I would appreciate any information that you may point me to. 1. [TXBELL-L] Lawler Pioneer Family Reunion
    2. The 53rd annual Lawler Family Reunion of Central Texas will be held July 17 & 18 at Temple Lake Park on Lake Belton. We will meet again at the Cen-Tex Sportsman's Club. We represent the descendants of Sarah Crawson Lawler who founded the first business in Belton. She being the widow of Eli Wilburn Lawler and a family to raise; opened a boarding house to feed the survey crew preparing for the county seat. Moses Newton Lawler 1833-1886 was one of the sons. Children of Moses Newton Lawler are: "Lee", "Molly", "Bell", "John", "Will", "Sam", "Fannie", "Mart" and " Jim" . Not one of these are still living but we usually have descendants representing almost every family. Any and all Lawlers as well as friends are welcome. I will be happy to give detailed information such as directions and time to any one. Reba Lawler
