    1. [TXBELL-L] Treat Family Assoc Gathering
    2. Gary D Treat
    3. Hi to everyone with Bell County TREAT ancestors and relatives, The registration brochure is now available for the 1999 Treat Gathering to be held in Fort Smith, AR on October 1-3. The conference will held at the Points Inn on Rogers Avenue in Fort Smith. A brief summary of events follows. The full brochure is available upon request. Reservations for the banquet need to be made in advance. Thanks! Gary ___________________________________________________________ 1999 Treat Gathering The Gathering in 1999 will be held in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the gateway to the Real Wild, Wild West. This historic city is located at the junction of the Arkansas and Poteau Rivers, on the border between Arkansas and Oklahoma. Much of its early history revolved around keeping law and order in this key border area into the Indian Territory. As part of our conference we will be touring the Fort Smith National Historic Site which includes the site of the 1817 fort, the old commissary building from the 1840s fort, as well as Judge Isaac Parker's Courthouse and Jail. There are many other museums and sites of interest in the Fort Smith area. Some of you may be interested in using the excellent genealogy collection in the Fort Smith Public Library, located just blocks from Judge Parker's Courthouse. This collection focuses on Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. Our Saturday conference will also feature lectures of interest to TREAT family members and special times just to visit with "long lost" cousins. A database(s) will be available during this time to aid persons tracking their TREAT ancestors and cousins. The Saturday evening banquet will be a buffet featuring deep fried catfish filets and sliced round of beef, with a variety of salads and side dishes. The cost for this banquet is $16.50 per person (children 5 and under are free, 6-12 are $8.25). The after dinner speaker will be Nell Treat Johnson, President of the Treat Family Association. She will be talking to us about Richard Treat, the original Treat immigrant to this country. On Friday before the conference, an informal dinner reception will be held at the Golden Corral restaurant for those arriving in town early. SPECIAL SUNDAY BONUS EVENT For those staying over into Sunday, a daytrip into the beautiful Ozark Mountains is planned. We will drive to the site of Treat, AR, and visit the property once owned by Andrew Jackson Treat, ancestor of many of the Treats now living in the Fort Smith area. The trip will also include a visit to the old Treat Cemetery, as well as the gravesite of A J Treat at the Annie's Chapel Cemetery. QUESTIONS? If you have any questions about the conference you may contact: Gary D Treat, Gathering Coordinator e-mail: gdtreat@swbell.net ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION The Treat Family Association was formed more than a decade ago to bring together TREATs from all across the country and from every TREAT ancestral line. In addition to sponsoring this conference, the association sends out newsletters every year which provide opportunities for members to place genealogical queries to other members and exchange information. The association welcomes memberships from all conference attendees. The annual membership dues are currently $5.00 per person.

    3. Help! I am finding trouble finding a place to ask my question. Will someone reply to me at my email if this is not the proper forum. My grandparents drew a pension of some sort either from the county or the state which they refered to as an old age pension. This was before the days of Social Security. I would appreciate any information. Marie . Marie

She was the d/o William and Mary Ann VANNOY BURNS. They had nine children who married into the following collateral names: MOORE/LAND/GODDARD/SHINE/NICHOLS/CARPENTER/TEAGUE Let me know if this sounds like the ones you are searching for and I will try to direct you to all of the additional information.

    1. [TXBELL-L] Bell County Web Page Resources
    2. Bill Bost
    3. Howdy Listers!! A newish resource page for Bell County, that has lots of new features available..and in development, is at: http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/TX/Bell/ It's WELL worth bookmarking, for future use. I've just added a RootsWeb search engine to the TXBELL, BCHC, and WBGS web pages, which will take a few days to index. Once that's done, you should be able to do searches on all the pages of information being put on these web sites! Also, I've added more photos to the BCHC photo album, mainly of cemeteries (that was my original interest point in Bell County). There are some about which I'm unsure as to identity. Some of you may know. There's been a Tiger Mapping Service (US Gov) map added to the TXBELL web page you may like to try. It may need tweaking (as all areas of the different pages do) but it might get you going with something you can use for Bell County. New entries for Salado from Chapter XV of the Story of Bell County have been added to the BCHC Archives pages, with more still to be placed there. It will probably load slowly (as will the BCHC Album page) due to size. I'll sort out more about how to better organize the pages for quicker display.... later. I hope you can use some or all of the information. MaryAnn Bartlett is doing virtually 100% of the Story of Bell County entries, and you'll see her name on almost all of the current series of Biography posts to the Biography Board. Oh, yes.. boards... someone asked what they were. The non-query Boards are for the posting of information by anyone who has Bell County-relevant material. For Bell County, those are the following: Biographies Board, Obituaries Board, Wills Board, Pensions Board, Bible Records Board, and Deeds Board. These are NOT for posting questions about ancestors on!! I will delete them, per RootsWeb guidelines. The board to use for questions is the Query Board, which IS for queries. There is a search engine that picks up surnames from the different boards and indexes them into a Surname Helper search base on which you can search. That's why putting surnames into the surnames field of a post is not helpful, as someone might search for a surname you show there (that isn't actually in your query text) and click on a search results list, only to find you didn't really have (surname) info there... very irritating and frustrating. It's why, time permitting, I edit posts to both be sure Bell County is referenced in your posts, and that non-query-relevant surnames are edited out of your post surname field. Lots of info.. but perhaps these new features will work for you... after all, the BCHC and WBGS sites didn't exist before February this year, and the Bell County pages were adoptable, and this TXBELL list didn't exist either! 2. Bill Bost
    3. For those of you listers who use the TXBELL boards, some information about changes.... If you haven't visited the Bell County board(s) lately, you should go and see the latest additions! For the Visitors: * Continuous preview/edit - Now the visitor can preview, then edit then preview again, then edit, and on and on ad infinitum until they get it the way they want. * NEW Searchbar! Located on the main screen for every board, this searchbar allows visitors to set many options that were previously only available by visiting the Search/Personalize Your Display Screen. The searchbar allows them to search for keywords or phrases, to set the number of messages displayed on the main screen, and also to determine in what order they're displayed. The [Search/Personalize Your Display] screen is still available for advanced searching .... like searching by poster. * New Notification format. Now the automated notifications that the visitors can sign up for clearly identify where to go to read the message, where to go to subscribe or unsubscribe from the notification list, and also now show the surnames that are entered on the message. We hope everyone enjoys these new features ... If it's been a while since you've visited the boards, please stop by and see these great new features. 3. Hi Dorice, My great-great grandparents, William and Mary Ann Vannoy Burns, moved onto Peppers Creek before about 1853. I'll see if I can find out when. They came from Benton Co. ARK. Before that they came from Franklin Co. Tennessee. I know my dad has talked about the Peppers in TX. I can't ask him anything right now. Later probably. I'll keep my eye out for your names. Maybe there's other info we should switch.
