Bill, Regarding posting of bios, since alot of us only have unsubstantiated family stories and public domain information about out ancestors, alot of what we know comes from the BCHC book. How picky is the gene society going to be regarding the info we post? My feeling is that they may own the copyright to their book but they don't own a copyright to our family histories. I don't advocate plagerism so how are we to deal with this matter? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com
Hi Dorice, My dad said he thoughts ours came on the White River Road also. (Maybe you guys have talked about it?). I've been looking for one and haven't found a trail called that. I just ordered a book though called Steamboats and Ferries on the White River in Arkansas. I'll let you know if I find out anything. I also subscribe to a migration mail list dealing with southern migrations. Haven't seen it mentioned there nor at any of the migration urls that come through, but haven't asked either. I am sorry, I don't remember who the Dawson researcher was that I was going to find and send info to- I haven't found the disk yet but it is here somewhere- we've been refencing the place (ranch) and the time I've been able to spend indoors has been very limited- Just wanted you to know that I have not forgotten and will continue to work on it- if nothing else I'll go back to the library and get that book again! Hello! does anyone know where the White River Road is located? I have heard some of our ancestors traveled that road from TN and then to Bell Co. TX. Also does anyone know of a Peppers or Dawson that traveled on "The Trail of Tears" to ARK and eventually ending up in BELL Co.? Happy to exchange info. Thanks, Dorice
Thanks Bill. Query: My gr gr grandfather, William M. Peppers, b. 1817, (somewhere in TN) moved to ARK sometime before 1841, as his dau, Mary Jane Peppers was b. in 1842 in ARK. After ARK, maybe Benton Co., they moved to Bell Co, and were the first white settlers on Pepper's Creek, that runs through Belton, actually in someplaces it runs parallel to 1H35 on the west side going south., Eveline Kincheloe, b. 1822, Blount Co. AL. was William's bride and the mother of Mary Jane. This bit of history is found in the "History of Bell Co. TX " by Taylor. They are listed in the 1850 Census of Bell Co. TX. Mary Jane Peppers married Henry Jefferson Dawson, (they were m. in Uvalde, TX. 1n1857. I will gladly share info with anyone. I do so need the names of the parents of William M. Peppers, and where he was born.and of course anything else would be an added bonus. Thank you, Dorice

Howdy Sherry.. ----Original Message Follows---- From: Sherry Davis-Ellis <bluefairies@uswest.net> ----Snip--- So if it is going to be computerized, what does that mean exactly? Sincerely Sherry Davis-Ellis Arizona, USA What I'll be looking for from the organizations for whom I'm acting as webmaster (at least for the moment) is content for their web page that has already been typed into a computer and is ready for importing into the webpage. It will be in a format I won't have to convert into something my computer can read, and won't involve having to type the content myself (or a volunteer). That way, if the organization decides to remove, modify, or add material, it will be all their time that will be affected. East Bell County Genealogical Society has started up with that expectation, and it's working okay. It also gives the organization more "ownership" and interest in the page content. I will still doing edited as needed to get the content to work with the webpage, since there are sometimes effects caused when a webpage displays in your internet brower that were (or weren't) in the orginal content!! Since I'm not from Bell County, and have no ancestors/relatives here, I can't really generate good content, except from previously-published sources, so I hope either published resources will be converted for internet use, or folks will begin providing material tailored for various organization webpage audiences. We'll see how things work out. Bell County has an interesting history, and interesting people, and I'd hope other folks will want to see more of that being made available to the world via the various Bell County webpages. Howdy TXBELL Subscribers... Forwarded to the list for any possible responses. (It isn't clear if the individual being sought is possibly still living, which would not be an appropriate posting for the TXBELL or Query Board.) Some personal address information and extraneous matter has been edited out of the query. Bill Bost TXBELL Listowner ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Colleen Kayter" <ckayter@earthlink.net> Subject: Cemeteries of Bell County Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1999 02:42:31 -0700 I am looking for Daniel Boone Greathouse, husband of Mary and Fred Greathouse, son of Daniel and Mary, died at age 14. I have no idea what the dates might be, but Fred would have been born between 1895-1905. I'm not sure where my mom got the information, but she told me that Daniel was last in the "Waco area." Mary is not buried with them, she died in the early 1960's is at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bakersfield, California with her other son, Charles. I'm kind of at my wits end with this family. My stepfather, J.D. Thomas, now age 77, remembers very little. His father was killed while breaking a horse, and his mom, L.V. Greathouse Thomas, died in a car accident two years later (1928) and is buried in Iowa Park, Wichita County, Texas. Mary and her son, Charles, raised J.D. He lost both parents before age 6. Also, if you might be able to point me in the right direction concerning ranches... I need to find the names of large ranches in Bell (if this is our branch of Greathouses), Grayson and Wichita Counties during the 1920's. Any information would be greatly appreciated and I would be glad to pay any fee that might be expected for such. Howdy Dorice.. Ooooo... yesyesyesyes you can still post queries! The Query, Bio, Will, etc. Boards have nothing to do with BCHC (other than I had to remove the BCHC content from the Bios Board). More the merrier (but I'd sure like to see more folks handling responses back to the inquirers!!) Go ahead and put your query on the Query Board, or I can copy it over there for you (not all the TXBELL subscribers read the Query Board, and not all the Query Board responders are TXBELL subscribers, so posting to both places can be a good idea). Hi, I am looking for the German Evangelical Church that would have been in (probably) Temple in the 1880's. I have George W. FRITZ marrying there in 1885 and then D. C. Fritz marrying in 1887. The person that performed the marriages was Rev. L. SCHAEFLE. I am wondering if this church is still in existence, by a different name perhaps. I would like to get the records of those two marriages in hopes that there are some parents' names on them. George Fritz married Miss Annie Cynthia Thomas(grandaughter of Samuel Cooksey, 1880 Bell Co). They are buried in Hillcrest Cem. along with Samuel Cooksey and his wife, Cyntha. D. C. Fritz married Miss Mary J. Johnson(no other info on them). Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks, Rayedene Graves

Mary, I just read your e-mail. I am confused inre the Bell Co. TX web page. I guess it will work itself out. I feel badly for all those volunteers that worked so many hours to post messages etc. I hope it is up and well again soon. I noticed your name "Honeycutt". My Peppers/Dawson families married some Honeycutts...could be they are related? Dorice in Auastin.
Can anyone tell me about the Independent Blues that was formed on March 20, 1859 in Bell Co. My g-g-g-grandfather was a part of this group. Calvin
Hello Bill and all: Just a thought on the latest discussion: while Mary Ann was transcribing the SOBC, I posted my surnames of interest. She e-mailed me that one of the surnames was hidden within one of the bios she had just done. I knew SOBC existed, but hadn't explored this avenue yet. Her placing the bio on the web page gave me a whole lot of information and to make a long story short: My library BOUGHT SOBC from the museum and now have it on their shelf. This is one aspect the commissioners have not thought of - the purchase of SOBC from advertisments of a sort on the web, be it from individuals or libraries. And they might be reminded that librarians do keep up with the times! Also in answer to what to do now? In speaking of libraries, never forget your own library as a source. INTER-LIBRARY LOAN is a wonderful thing. If not the actual book, try having pages or the index or table of contents copied. Good luck to everyone in their research and thanks Bill. Gayle B.
