    3. My grandmother, Lydia Bets Vickers, born near Seaton in 1883, used to tell me stories about going to school as a child in a building which had the schoolroom on the top floor and the church on the bottom floor. I'd be interested to know where/what this school was. I remember this particularly because she told a story of getting in trouble for playing in the schoolroom during recess (forbidden because running around upstairs shook dust down into the church) and being chased by the teacher with a switch, up and over a stile in the schoolyard. My memory of this is 50+ years old, so I don't know the exact location -- her family lived somewhere in the Oenaville/Seaton area, possibly near Ratibor. Nancy Davis Harwood Houston, TX

    3. You say that you have recorded 50 Bell County Cemeteries. By chance have you come across graves of any Jarrell families or the graves of Elias Preston Dyches, his mother Jane Dyches, d. appx 1880s or an Elizabeth Mullinax. I have not been able to locate their final resting places. That is a large cemetery, but fairly well maintained. We would be interested in your list when you are finished. My wife and I are attempting to catalog every cemetery in Bell County. End goal is a book and data base with everyone buried in Bell County listed. We have a ways to go but have personally cataloged about 50 cemeteries and have input on about 10 more from various folks. If you are from that general area of Bell County maybe you can help us locate the Way/Hopewell and the Meador Grove Cemeteries. Way/Hopewell is supposed to be somewhere (probably northwest) of the intersection of Hwy 2409 and Berry Rd/Buckhorn Cemetery Rd or it may be northwest of the intersection of 2409 and Whitehall Rd. 1. [TXBELL-L] Bell Co. Marriage records help please
    2. Hello, I'm new to the list, and have a question that has been nagging in the back of my head for about 2 years now. I am in hopes someone has come across this before and could shed some light please. About 2 years ago I travelled from CA to Bell Co. to research my gr gr gr grandpa, James Eden Williams. While in the courthouse, I studied the marriage journals. The old, huge book, first one that has Marriage Books A,B, and C in it. (or 1,2, and 3, can't remember now). The very last page of the first book, just before the division for the second book, was one odd hand-written page. No heading or title on the page. I have a copy of it here with me. It starts by listing three names: James E. Williams Jonathan Williams Wilkinson Melville There is a line drawn from each name over to the right hand side of the page. The small right hand column is entitled "FOLIO". Next to James E. Williams' name, under Folio, is the number one (1). Same next to Jonathan's name. Melville's number is 5. I questioned every employee I could find in that courthouse, as to what FOLIO was. No one had ever heard of it or seen it. Neither James nor Jonathan were listed in the first book of marriages (or 2nd or 3rd, for that matter). I know my James E. Williams married while living in Bell Co., circa late 1851 or early 1852. And I just feel that if I could find that FOLIO, I would find his marriage listed. Since no one at the courthouse seems to know what I'm talking about, I thought I'd see if someone on this list could please help. Thanks, Teddy in CA

Hastings - Permelia Powell Cemetery Date: Sun, 03 Oct 1999 21:14:29 -0600 I have been going through the Cemetery records for Little River, Wilson Family Cemetery in Bell County. The above Hezekiah and Permelia Hastings are our Great Great Grandparents, and I have been searching to see if I could find their death/burial records in Texas. About seven years ago I was in Texas, going through books in the Mc Lennan County Library in Waco, and in a small booklet put out by the Central Texas Genealogical Society, I found reference to the burial of Permelia in the Wilson Valley Cemetery. Only details were her birth and death years, shown as "B 1816 - D 1892". (Permelia's birth date was June 16, 1816 as recorded in the family Bible), so this satisfied me that this was our Permelia. I was unable to find Hezekiah's death or burial record at that time. Today I have been going through the Wilson Valley Cemetery records, and have found Hezekiah's burial, with the following information "B. June 21, 1816 - D Jan 06, 1892" (Note: The family Bible gives Hezekiah's birth date as 27 Oct. 1818). As this does appear to be a conflict of information, with Permelia shown in one record and Hezekiah in another, I am somewhat confused. Do you have any idea if they were both buried in this cemetery, or should I continue to look elsewhere for one or the other of them. Thanking you in advance, Virginia M.
