Hello Elmer Thank you for taking the time to look these up. I am unsure of the relationship of the Whartons as yet, but am searching my files. Also, the Spoonts names seem familiar, but am still looking for them in my notes. I think H.A. and my GGGrandfather William (Houston) Spoonts were brothers, but I'll have to verify that. Thanks for the look up! Howdy Subscribers!! Thought I'd test the waters to see if any list member would be interested in assuming webmaster functions for the Bell County History and Genealogy web page I currently run. I'm interested in doing some other things that need time, that can probably only come out of web page "mastering". Managing the TXBELL mailing list would go with the Bell County page, by the way. Interested folks would be expected to be from Bell County, or have history or genealogical ties to Bell County, and would pick up whatever associated boards or whatever were with it (them). Let me know at: longwired@hotmail.com if you want to know more about what would be involved. Sep 1895 TX (female) Sorry I can not help you on Abigail. Calvin
Hello Jackie Sorry no Jame Dyches Meeks. My Meeks was an Abigail who married a John A. Weddell. This was Abigail's second marriage, first to Meeks. She had several children: George B., Tabitha E., and Euphrates, listed on the 1880 census record. There also seems to be an older son John who married Mary Ella Wharton on April 20, 1876. Their children were: Robert E., John G., Issac Samuel, George Benjamin, Sterling West, Abbie Pearl, Timmie Ella, John H. Weddle, and Arizona Meeks. The 1880 Census record indicates that Abigail, her first husband and their children all were born in Tennesee. Hello Liz, This is a long long shot, but do you happen to have a Nancy Meek or Meeks that was born about 1850 in MO? She was living in Texas by 1860 married Albert Lewis Robinett, their son was also named Albert Lewis and he married a Bell County lady. We have not been able to track our Nancy Meek/Meeks family at all. My great-great grandmother, Jane Dyches was listed as the head of a Meeks household in the 1860 census of Bell County, near Belton, Texas. (Note, I think this was an error, but...maybe she HAD married a MEEKS in the time between her husband's death in 1854 and the 1860 census taking. So do you know anything about a Jane Dyches Meeks? Don't Send Attachments To Postings. > I printed your letter and took it to the nursing home to discuss with my mother -in-law, Mildred Cosper. She has quite a memory of old Bell Cty and I have been trying to keep track of what she can remember. The name Haynes hit me immediately as my husband's great aunt was Bulauh Haynes. She was still alive when I married my husband and we had visited with her several times. Anyway, on to the info from Grannie. There was a William P. Haynes (possibily a son). Info she gave as follows: William P. Haynes married Sally Gould: They had 3 daughters, (1)NoraBelle Haynes Williams, (2.)Lois Haynes Fisher ( Married A.G (Guy) Fisher, they had 2 children Guy Dale Fisher (254-793-2958) and Helen Fisher McAndrews (243-793-3772). The 3rd dauther she could not remember given name but she married a man named Alfred Schafer. I told her that I was going to give this info to you and that you might want to talk with her. She is not good on the phone, however, if you went by to see her with whatever records you have she might be able to help. Bringing up an old name, seems to bring on a lot of pretty accurate information. She is 86 years old but her mind is still pretty sharp and she has a lot of Bell Cty info still in her. If you would like to visit, she is in Room 210 at Park Manor Nursing Home on 13th St. in Belton, Tx. I hope this will maybe help you some. Please call me at anytime. James D. McMahon was a lawyer who practiced in Belton during the 1880's. At least he had an office in the Kingsboro building in 1888. I believe Mr. McMahon was also a real estate investor on a larger than usual scale. His father, James B. McMahon, was a Methodist minister who lived in Central Texas. Does anyone know if there is any genealogical information on these McMahons in the Belton library the Waco library? Or even, per chance, living descendents? Any help will be appreciated.
