There is a bio of Charles Williams on the Falls County Genweb page. It mentions Marion Merriman Williams. Hi, I am interested in making contact with any descendants of John B. Markham and his wife Sarah E. Upshaw, and also of Sarah's father John Upshaw. John B. Markham married Sarah Upshaw 1843 in Noxubee Co. Miss. they were in Bienville Parish LA by 1849 or before. John B. Markham was stabbed to death by a Mr. Morris at Morris' home near Minden, LA in Feb. 1856. The Judge let Morris go without charges. The widow, Sarah, was left with with five small children, 3 girls and two boys. She was surrounded by her father, John Upshaw, her brothers T.A. and James Upshaw (James was sheriff of Bienville in the 1860s). Sarah and her brothers were in Bell county by 1867. They lived near Holland. The Post Oak Cemetery is on what was the farm of James Monroe Markham, one of Sarah's sons. The other son was John Bunyon Markham. Sarah died in 1902 and is buried at Post Oak, not far from her two sons and other family members. Apparently she never told her children that their father was murdered, they thought he disappeared or died in the Civil War. Mrs. Sarah Schultz, who was living in Temple when I met her in 1974, was a relative through John Upshaw. She was accepted into the NSDAR in 1974 on the Revolutionary War service of our ancestor, Lt. Leroy Upshaw of Amherst Co. Va. later of Elbert Co. GA. Some of the family related names were Warr and Fancher. David dmorgan@efn.org David W. I am looking for information on Marion Merriman Williams, b. April 21, 1853 Beaumont, Jefferson Co., TX, son of Charles Williams, moved to Falls Co., TX Abt. 1854, m. I have been in contact with the son of my great great grandfather. He told me two of his half sisters and one half brother came to TX from AL, but could not tell me where. Well, we all know Texas is a big state. Recently, I visited with this Uncle of mine in Alabama. He is 85 and still could not tell me where these people went but in the courthouse in Scottsboro, AL, I found the estate papers for my great great grandfather. The papers were helpful in telling me that my aunt and uncle were in Rogers, Bell County, TX. They were Fannie Neeley Williams--I think she was married to George Williams and James A. (Jim) Neeley. Jim was married to Martha Gossett. Can anyone shed any light on any descendants of these people that may still be in the Bell County area? The other sibling was my great grandmother. She was in Titus County, TX. Thanks for any information. Darlene
Isn't that Hill Cemetery the Hill Family from Bartlett? Not sure, but think there is a Bobby Hill in Bartlett. You might be able to contact him. It is definitely in need of some tender loving care and a cemetery association, however, because of the annual cleaning activity we don't think it is abandoned. This was invaluable in my search. My mother's sister died in Salado in 1937 at the age of 10 and was buried in Keys Valley Cemetery. Your information has this cemetery moving to Cedar Knob Cemetery. I have been looking for Keys Cemetery for a long time. Would you know of any listings for Cedar Knob Cemetery? Or another resource for finding the actual grave site. My mother would like to have her sister's grave moved to the family plot in Junction. I appreciate your time and any direction you could give. Good news! I started out with the name Davidson from the county tax office (regarding who might own the Hill cemetery). Mr. Davidson said when he purchased the land, he thought they would also get the Hill cemetery, but the cemetery was subtracted(?). Mr. Davidson referred me to Buck and Anna Bailey whom he purchased the land from. I spoke with Anna yesterday and she is a Hill descesdant. Apparently it is her brother Alfred Moore that really keeps up with the cemetery and Hill family history. Think I am finally on the right track. Thanks for your help! Angie Chandler

If all else fails, go to the Land records office. Tell the Clerk where it is located and pull up the platts on it. From there you should be able to find owners name, either the current or last one. Start with that. It sometimes leads to someone who has old records stashed away in a trunk or box, even though they have since donated the land to the City, County or State. Hope this helps. Joe, Laurel, and all.. Yes, I still have the Salado file from Laurel, and it will be part of the material we transition from me to Joe. For Joe... maybe the thing for me to do is to "clean up" the few cemetery lists I have pending (Salado, from Laurel, is one), and let you simply perhaps retrieve the already-sent files from the archives, so you have a local copy of what we've sent. Or.. I could send you the source files from which the archive ASCII was prepared (maybe on a ZIP disk?)? Staying flexible. Bill Bost ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Joe D. Hello folks -- Does anyone know if there is a listing of those buried in the Salado Cemetery? I am asking for a friend who simply said, "It is the large cemetery in Salado." Perhaps it is a city cemetery. I'm not asking for a look up -- just trying to find out if the data has been gathered and if it is in a useable source somewhere. Pati Stone. ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Doug Traylor" <millien@gte.net> Subject: Re: info request for TRAYLOR family names Date: Sat, 30 Oct 1999 16:59:30 -0500 Pati, Thanks a lot, I appreciate your time, please try the time frame 1915 thru 1940, I know that my grandparents moved to Temple from Caldwell or Deanville during that time frame. I recently found my great-grandfather's grave in Chrisman, TX, that's just outside of Caldwell. He was a Terry Traylor same as my father. My grandfather Willy and wife Alma are buried in Temple along with my father. I left Temple in 1953 and lost contact with all relatives still living there. My only living uncle is almost 80 and not very knowledgeable about his family in Temple, also he says that his father did not tell hom much about our family. I am new to the internet, but from what i have found there are a number of Traylors in Bell County that are kin to me. My cousin Doyle Traylor played football, a quarterback for Temple High in the early 50s, then went on to Baylor as a star quarterback in the mid 50s. I have talked to him, he is not very knowledgeable about our family either, kind of like some deep dark secret. I did find out in Caldwell that we had kin fighting on both sides during the Civil War, maybe there is where the deep dark secret lies. Now that I am retired from teaching high school, I am learning more about the internet and walking the cemeteries looking at graves and taking lots of pics. My doctor says that the walking is good for me, maybe so, I don't need the wheel chair or the cane anymore, but still limp. Well thanks again, I am looking forward to your reply Doug Traylor millien@gte.net ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
