My friend and I have copied many cemeteries over the years in Roanoke, Va and surrounding areas. They include Roanoke Co, Montogomery Co, Floyd Co, Bedford Co, Botetourt Co and Roanoke City. I also have some death records and obits. I am willing to search out my records for requests at no charge. But, please, I cannot do research outside of my home. GiGi
Perhaps I should clarify. Please send any responses directly to Linda's e-mail address (amron@hot1.net), since she is not a subscriber. If it is of interest to Bell County researchers, by all means copy it to the list as well. I will forward to Linda any replies sent to me already. Thanks Joe D. --part1_0.78743e19.258240d3_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit According to the Handbook of Texas there were two Stampede's in the area..... STAMPEDE, TEXAS (Bell County). Stampede is on Stampede Creek and Farm Road 2601, twelve miles northwest of Temple in northern Bell County. The creek's name probably derived from some cattle-driving mishap. The community had a post office from 1883 to 1901 and a general store in 1896. The Stampede school served fifty-nine pupils in 1903. In 1933 Stampede reached a peak population of sixty-two and supported one business. By 1949 the population had fallen to thirty, and the community had a business, the school, and a Baptist church. By 1964 Stampede had only ten inhabitants living in several scattered dwellings. The population was still recorded as ten in 1990. Mark Odintz STAMPEDE, TEXAS (Coryell County). Stampede was six miles southeast of Pidcoke in southern Coryell County. It had about forty families in 1917. They attended the Refuge church. Stampede had a school that burned in 1921 and had to be rebuilt. Residents were forced to relocate when the Fort Hood military reservation was established in the early 1940s. Hello, New to the list. Wonder if anyone has any connections to the John M. SHAY family, who appear on the 1880 Bell Co. census. Or, wonder if any of you have access to the 1880 census, and could give me the information on this family, found on page 407 in Bell Co. in 1880. Thanks for any help. Judy
Wedel Cemetery is one not yet listed on the Bell County site. However, it being located on the corner of our farm; it would be easy to check out any gravesites if you send the names. I do not know the history of this cemetery but I could give a couple of names of contact people if you wish. I am trying to find the gravesite of my great grandfather. Said to have died in Heidenheimer. Always thought he was buried in Heidenheimer Cemetery but there is no tombstone. Does anyone know who might have records? Also would like to find out where their land was at that time. Jackie
The Church of Christ building in Heidenheimer was moved from Stringtown in 1948. I have the origional deed. Heidenheimer is on Hwy. 36; about six miles east of Temple. Stringtown is some three miles northeast. I never heard of a Stringtown cemetery. We bought the Hargrove estate in 1963; two miles east of Heidenheimer. Wedel was the owner before Henry Hargrove. There is a Wedel cemetery which is located on our property; (which now belongs to the Wedel Cemetery Association.) Regards,Reba
Here's a description of Little Elm Creek that may help in pinpointing the location....... LITTLE ELM CREEK (Bell County). Little Elm Creek rises one mile southeast of Pendleton in north central Bell County (at 3111' N, 9720' W). The stream, which is intermittent in its upper reaches, runs southeast for nineteen miles, through eastern Bell County, to its mouth on Big Elm Creek, nine miles east of Temple (at 3101' N, 9712' W).
