    2. Hello, I am trying to find information about my grandfather's family that was in the Bell Co area in the early 1900's. My grandfather was born in Troy, Tx 08-11-1901 and the family lived there until sometime around 1912. I have been told that they lived in the Troy and also Belton,Tx area. When my g grandfather, Samuel Joshua Belt Williams, moved his family to Athens, Henderson Co. Tx one of my grandfather's brother stayed in the area. I am not sure which brother it was. John Jackson Williams married Fannie Love Jan. 1903 and Claude Allen married Minnie Martin May, 3 1914. Has anyone ever came across these family names in their search in this area. Any help will be appreciated. Sandy

    2. Roger M. Pace
    3. There have been several discussions on this list about searching for cemeteries. I thought I would input as to how I find old cemeteries, as it works about 99% of the time. You can look up all the cemeteries in a particular county of the United States by going to the GNIS page at http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html All you need to type in is your State, the county name and in feature type, put in cemetery. After you query a list of all cemeteries will come up showing latitude and longitude and the area they are in. (There are 54 cemeteries listed in Bell County). I write down the lat. & long. and open a mapping program on my computer. Go to the County you are looking in and most mapping programs wiil show lat. & long. at the bottom of the window as you move your mouse. Use your mouse to line up the lat & long. and you will have the cemetery pinpointed. I have found this to work on every cemetery I have ever looked for, except for one. You can then print out a map t! o take hunting with you, and if you follow the roads on the map you will be surprised just how accurate it is. Hope this helps. There probably are other ways ,too, but this seems to work well for me. If anyone does not have a mapping program on their computer and need a cemetery lookup, e-mail me personally and will try to get you one. Roger M. Pace Shamrock,Texas irishfan@pan-tex.net

    3. Forwarded for possible TXBELL responses... Bill Bost ----Original Message Follows---- From: LonDavidek@aol.com Subject: Patrick and Margaret Kelley Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2000 15:31:21 EST I was wondering who might be able to help me with two gravesites located in Belton. I was there several weeks ago trying to find the locations of Midway Cemetery where Patrick A. Kelley (CSA) was buried and Margaret Anne (Clarke) Kelley who was buried in Hill Cemetery. Both of these Cemeteries are obscure and when I was there I tried to locate both Cemeteries with no success. I only have partial dates for both. P. A. Kelley was born abt. 1834 and died 3-13-1831 (Via Pension) and Margaret who was born in 1849 and died 8-28-1928. The Belton library only had year dates and not complete dates and I was wondering if someone or some book had complete dates so I could obtain these. Thanks so much for your attention, Lon ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    3. Vicki, Thanks. I wrote a line wrong in my message to you. I said, I am trying to research this line and I should have said this Surname. I just have the name of my husband's great grandfather, Jesse Robert Lemmon/d/s on the Bell County Texas tax roll in 1887 and then in Delta County in 1890. He came to Texas from Pontotoc County, Mississippi, in about 1886 or so. Prior to that he was in Randolph County, Alabama and then Morgan County, Georgia. He married while he lived in Randolph County, AL (m across the State line in Georgia) and he served in the Confederate Army from Randolph County. Between September 1870 and April 1873 he left Alabama and moved to Mississippi. I have always wondered what the draw to Bell County, Texas, was and have seen a few mentions of the surname in that county. We believe that the Lemmon female that married a Berry was connected with our line of Lemmons and they came to Bell County, also. I live in McComb, Mississippi. But we are Texans. I was born in Comanche County and had a number of Bell County, Texas relatives. Stewart, Wilkinson, Harmon, another allied names were Fewell. My husband was born in Ellis County and we met and married in Tarrant County. We lived about 8 1/2 years in Beaumont, the same in Lake Charles, LA, then about 21 years on the West Bank in the New Orleans area. Then in the fall of 1993 we moved north about 100 miles to McComb. I do not know it the Lemmon lines are connected but would like to learn more about yours and those living there now. Thanks Virginia

    3. Hi Virginia, I will be happy to inform you of the reunion. My grandmother to whom I grew up with was a Lemmons & she came from a family of 8 siblings & she was the first born. Around 12-14-99, I posted a message on Ancestry.com saying "Looking for Mattie & Annie Lemmons from Belton TX" Low & behold, on 12-23, I heard from Mattie Lemmons daughter named Pat! I had no idea that Mattie could ever be alive but, she is 89 years old! You talk about "EXCITEMENT"! :) You see I never knew her or about any other Lemmons. Pat said that ,Mattie had just ask her to find my dad on the net & they did not know he had died 9-98. So, we are in contact & they also mentioned about going to the Lemmons reunion in September. I hope to meet you there as well! I have been trying to find out who puts the reunion together I have called the Temple Newspaper but they keep no records of those who place an ad, then I placed a plea on the Bell county site. Been in contact with the president of the local genealogy society & so far, no success. But I will find them & when I do I will let you know. Tell me Virginia, where do you live? I live in Houston. Do you still have my snail mail address? Sincerely Sherry Davis-Ellis Sherry, Saw that you might have gotten some conflicting information abut J.G. Payne being at the McDowell Cemetery. We have not finished that inventory, but based on the email we took a ride out there. The information on the tombstone is: J.G. Payne Husband of Carrie M. Payne died 5 March 1897 aged about 76 years His many virtues form the noblest monument to his memory We took some pictures. Tombstone is very dark and may not turn out. Will net you know when they are developed.
