    1. [TXBELL-L] Blue ribbon & name tag
    2. Jody Dillard
    3. Hi all, Blue ribbon sounds great and I think the idea of having a name tag with ancestory info is also very good. Think I will put the title of mine as TXBELL-L Group. Now I have to try to remember some of the names of the people on the list. I will put direct descendants only on my nametag, but just for reference (and I would like to hear from some of you too with this information) I am Joanne (Jody) Dillard daughter of James Cowan Dillard born in Belton 1915 and Lillie Fay Humphrey born in Jones Co. 1919. His parents were Jerry Clements Dillard and Leona Cowan. Other Bell County surnames of these two families were. Barron, Bean, Bigham, Bowles, Burke, Bush, Clements, Duke, Estes, Fields, Garner, Griffin, Harlan, Herring, Jackson, Johnson, Knight, McDowell, Pittman, Stokes, Trousdale, Williams. Those are just a few that I can remember. Hope to see you on the 23rd. Jody Dillard HEAR ME>> http://www.pagoo.com/signature/okielady

    3. Charlene, The museum is at 100 N. Main. Right in the middle of town. But the museum is under renovation. When I was there Thursday it did not look like it was going to be any where near finished by the time you get there. There were no exhibits up at all. You may want to call in advance. However, the Bell County Library has a terrific genealogy department. Be sure and stop by. Good luck. To Joe and Dorothy Button, Thank you so much for the directions to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. I can't wait to go back and look there. I was in Killeen and could have easily come back by there had I known. Do you have a list of those buried there? Are there other Jacksons or Cowans there? Thanks Jody Dillard

    2. Jody Dillard
    3. Joe, The idea of wearing a ribbon to identify ourselves as part of the group is a good one. But, have you ever tried to find Brown Ribbon... whoa.. I work for a greeting card company and we sure don't have brown. Could we go purple or blue or something easier to find? Just a thought. I was in Bell County yesterday. The museum was completely empty while being remodeled. So nothing to research there. Got some good pictures at Resthaven Cemetery. Went to McDowell Cemetery but the storm got too bad and the lightning chased me away. Will have to wait til April, I guess. Somebody had asked me to look for Hambrick. I did see some Hambricks listed in North Belton Cemetery. Only had a few minutes to look at the book and weather did not permit me to go there. Rose Mary, I got lots of pictures of your Herrings and mine at Resthaven that had been moved from Tennessee Valley Cemetery. I will send those to you. Somebody else was asking about a J.G. Payne or Paine. I will look next time. I did see in the Story of Bell County that a John Paine was the first businessman in Bell County. Is this the same person? I am still trying to find out where the Pleasant Hill Cemetery is and the site of Robert Jackson Cowan and his wife Melissia Trousdale. Anybody know where it is? Jody

My great grandmother was buried in Killeen Cemetery, but don't know which one. Her real name was Nancy Catherine Bradford, however, her obit shows "Nannie Bradford". Born 10-26-1868 in SugarLoaf, Tex and died 2-21-1907 in Killeen, Tex. If you have any further information, I sure would appreciate receiving it. It will be on Saturday, April 22. At 11am, there will be a celebration at the renovated courthouse in Belton, including planting an oak tree. At noon, there will be a family picnic at Yettie Polk Park (one block West of the Courthouse). And at 2pm, Bell County Museum's Sesquicentennial Exhibit opens one block north of the courthouse. I plan to make the drive down to Belton for these events. Anyone else attending? >>
