I notice that there are no dates shown for him, although his tombstone does show them. The dates should be 1913-1973. My mother, Thelma Jones Davis, is buried next to him. Her dates should be 1912-1998. We have contacted the stonemason (or whatever you call the person who is supposed to complete the information on the tombstone), but as of about six weeks ago her stone still did not show her date of death. Thanks for all you do. I have added the Bell County Obituary Search Engine that will allow keyword searches through all of the online obituaries of the local newspaper. The URL is http://www.obitcentral.com/obitsearch/counties/tx-bell.htm There are other obituary search engines that can be searched from http://www.obitcentral.com/obitsearch/other.htm Hope this helps someone find some surnames that they've been looking for. The same holds true for some of my families. They used a Youngsport , Bell co address but are buried in Williamson co.
Jackie, the listing for the Donohue Cemetary is at: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/bell/cemetery/donahoe.txt The current list of transcribed Bell County cemetaries is at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/bell/belltoc.htm The list of all known Bell County cemetaries is at: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/bell/cemetery/cemlist.txt I don't find reference to the Dyches name when searching the Bell County site, but our information is definitely not all-encompassing (yet!). Hi, Deb. Something you might consider doing is looking at some of the Bell/Milam county border cemeteries. I found a ton of my Bell County relatives in the Val Verde Cemetery just across the line in Milam County. I looked in the list I have for Val Verde and your HEUN is not in there. Anyway, just a thought for you! Kim Warren Thomas

I guess next time we will have to coordinate a place to meet up with the list subscribers. The tree was definitely impressive. It's too bad the sample they took from the old tree didn't work out for planting the new one at the courthouse. At least the new one was from Salado...heh. Joe D. As David Morgan has stated, this information is already online, via the Texas State Archives. When I first heard about it, I was not too crazy about it either. However, keep in mind that the only information included is name, birthdate, gender, and county. No parental or Social Security information. TXGenWeb is simply breaking the information down by county for their archives. This will especially be valuable for the next generation of researchers. I am definitely looking into projects to transcribe the census and more cemetary records. If you are interested in participating, please let me know. Joe D. I remember a while back someone posted a request here about a cemetery in Moody that may have some of his/her relatives. I found a cemetery that is on private property right across the road from a friend of my son, near the intersection of Owl Creek Road and Hwy 53. I asked the friend's father about the cemetery, and he told me it was the old St. Paul's Luthern Cemetery and that the owner of the land did not mind if people went in there to look at it (as long as they closed the gate when they went through). He also told me that someone from The Grove was already researching that cemetery, though he didn't give me a name. If the person who posted that request could repost perhaps I can help with the question. In addition to meeting some of my fellow Texas county coordinators, I attended some great presentations. Leigh Compton provided some useful tips on webpage enhancements and digital photos. One of her recommendations was a web application called jclicker. I decided to play around with it some this evening. You may recall that the Charter Oak Election Day celebration took place last weekend as part of the Bell County Sesquicentennial events. I attended (only saw one other blue ribbon!) and took several pictures at the old charter oak tree, the courthouse, and the picnic. There is a slideshow presentation of 21 of these pictures at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txbell/sesqui1/ You must have a java-compliant browser (recent versions of IE or Netscape will do, probably above version 4) to view this. This is just an experiment and likely will not be permanent. The images have been reduced in size, but still make take a little while to load with a slow connection. I may create a text index of the pictures later this week for those with older or non-standard browsers. The final photo project I am working on will probably use standard HTML and thumbnail previews, so that the photos can have searchable descriptions. Enjoy! Joe D.
