There was a J. H. Payne that was issued one share of stock in the First National Bank of Holland (Bell Co., TX) in November 1905. This from "The Life History of Mother and Dad" by Helen Mewhinney Dobbs, 1965. Hope this is your James H., Rich

Annie Elizabeth Payne-Dixon was born 10-22-1868 in Bell County TX. Her parents were James G. Payne from Tenn., and Carrie M. Thames from LA. Annie died on 11-13-1945, in L.A. county CA. She had two girls that I know of, unfortunately I do not know their names and I do not know what her husbands first name was. But this is great break through for me. She took care of my grandmother after 1913 after Annie's sister died Susie Payne-Smith for awhile. I am desperately seeking any family out there that might know the where about of the two daughter's, or their family. If anyone has census for 1900 and 1910 for TX and would be willing to do a check for me I would most greatly appreciate it. I also have a obit on Jesse Granville Payne born Oct. 8 1870 in Bell co.Tx. father is James G. Payne and Carrie Thames died on 11-28-1951, in Waco McClennan County at his home on 905 North 9th St. Waco, it shows him being a retired RR man. I have sent for some records on him at RR in Chicago, but they have no record of him, and unfortunately there was no SS# for him on his death certificate. It does show however one daughter J.C. Harrison but she to has passed away. She had a daughter by the name of Mildred Louise Harrison. Mildred Louise Harrison married Louis Frank green, they had one son named Louis Jackson Green on 01-28-1942. I have tried to locate him., I did find him I think on a record married to a Ginger Wales on 12-09-1980 in McClennen county. Jesse also had a son named James H. Payne. If there is any family members related to these family members please contact me. I know this was a little lengthy but I want to try and locate my family. Thank you for your patients. Sherry AZ
I have just added a calendar option to the Bell County site. Currently, I am using another service to do this, but I hope to eventually design my own to store on our server. There is a link from the main page, or you can go directly to: http://www.calendars.net/cals/BellCoTX If you have any Bell County events that relate to history or genealogy, e-mail the details to me and I will add them to the calendar. Examples might include family/class reunions, genealogical society events, or historical dedications/celebrations. I have also updated the surname list: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txbell/surname.htm Enjoy! Joe D. Deaver BellCoTX Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~txbell ancestry@deaver.com

Linne, About 80% of the people who go to this reunion are Bowles and Estes family members. Especially from the Edmund Estes and Caroline McDowell Bowles families. I will be happy to put you in touch with some of them. However, I tried responding directly to you and my email came back. I will try again. I have a family history on most of the descendents of William and Mary McDowell. I could send you a gedcom file. Have about thirty more people to enter and I will be finished with it for now. Keep in touch. Tell me again which of these family members is your ancestor. Edmund Estes married two of the McDowell girls so there is quite a bit on his group. Tammy Van Horn, if you see this and would like to respond to Linne you may have more than I do. Alma Davis Bomer will also be there. She has been doing research on the family for many many years but she does not have email. She is descended from Estes also. I am from the Margaret Wilson McDowell - John Woods Cowan group. Jody Dillard
The Willam and Margaret Mary McDowell Descendents Reunion will be held Saturday June 10th at the Nolan Valley Baptist Church on FM93 5 1/2 miles west/northwest of Belton at 10:00 am. Everyone is invited to come and share their family history and stories. It will be catered at a cost of $6.50 per person. The McDowell Cemetery is next door so we can do some research after the get together. Other family surnames for this family are Estes, Cowan, Bowles, Murphy, Mitchell, Dunlap, Moore, Mitchell, Manghum, Thompson and many more. See you there, Jody Dillard
Jackie, I hit the "send" too soon. James and Kate Dike were the grandchildren of Sarah. Their mother's name is Amy McCray Dike. I don't have a name for their father. Gina
Jackie, I don't know if there is a connection, but 2 Dike children were living with my g-g-aunt for the 1870 census in Bell County. Her name was Sarah McCray. The children were James Dike b. abt. 1857 in Texas and Kate Dike b. abt. 1859 in Texas. Hi Sandy, I do have a Charlotte Williams, b. abt 1881 mar to Mathias Armstrong 1897, lived in Bell Co--Holland--where my grandmother was born to C. Williams. Don't know anything else at this point --please keep in touch as there are a million Williams as you already know!! My grandmother, also Charlotte, was born 1901 and was the oldest of Charlotte Williams Armstrong's children. My grandmother listed her mother's birthplace as Alabama--don't know how accurate this is. What town did your ggrandfather live in? Do you know anything about other siblings who could be cousins or brothers to Charlotte? Thanks, and good luck! Vicki, I should not even get up in the morning. I was in the folder on Lemmond and saw your messages and replied to this one about staying in contact. Have you made any progress on the Lemmond reunion? I am still interested. We are finishing up the 1 month of 20 days of Interferon Treatments on Gene - today is day 19 and tomorrow will be the last day - we get a 2 week vacation from cancer treatments. Then he will go in once a month for blood tests and will give himself shots 3 times a week for a year. I am still very interested in the Lemmond reunion/etc from Bell County. Virginia
