Thanks to Margaret, she joggled my memory and the name just popped out. Does anyone know anything about that chapter? Thanks. Jackie Morgan
Jackie, To which chapter did she belong? That would be important information to have in your search. See if there is a membership card somewhere among her belongings. If you will go to this web site: http://www.gltexas.org/oestar.htm you will find an address where you can write or call to get information. My great-grandmother was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She died in 1937 in Temple. Would anyone know anything about her membership? Is there anyone that would have records or pictures of those groups? My great-grandmother's name was Rowena Texas JARRELL BRYAN. Thanks Jackie Morgan
I don't think so, but you know how it goes -YOU NEVER KNOW. Do you know his parents? My James S. Bingham was born in 1825 probably in Missouri. Married Lavica Dyches (Dykes) in 1849. I don't know his parents' names. I'll put you in my notes, just in case. Please do the same for me. Try looking up MILLER as possible spelling for Melear.
Here is what I have on my Jeffrey family (no "s") at the end... we have a match on Mary E. Jeffrey, b. Alabama, but mine is born 1835... very likely the same family... there may be two Mary E's... this line has several similar names... possibly my Jeremiah and your Abner were siblings? Any ideas? Just to let everyone know, I will likely be unavailable for the next 2-3 days. I am in the process of moving this weekend and will probably not have any chance to be online. Although I don't enjoy moving, one benefit of my new place is that DSL is available and you can bet I've already ordered it! If you have any comments or updates, please go ahead and send them to my e-mail address below and I will handle them as soon as possible. Thanks! Joe D. There will be a Genealogy seminar Sat. July 15th. Hours are from 10a-4p and will be held at the Scot's Clan Hall at the Central Texas Area Museum in Salado. Speakers will be Vada Sutton, Bill Buckner, Alice Pierce and Karen Thompson. Cost 30$ for preregistration and 35$ at the door (lunch included).
The 1860 Slave Schedule for Bell County, TX lists a T.W. Powers on page 1 with one female, age 15 and one female, age 9. Does anyone know who these females were or where did they go after 1860? Thanks! Anita Researching: RICHARDS & THREADGILL in KY&IL POWERS & FULCHER in TX
Yikes, that is the day I am moving. I sure wish I knew about these far enough ahead of time to schedule for them and make the drive down to Bell County. I would have really liked to hear Vada speak. I always enjoy talking to her whenever I make it down. Joe D. Strange that I have not heard about that event. Is it being hosted by one of the local genealogical societies? You would think they would contact me and get some publicity on the main Bell County site. I'm always happy to help promote local events like genealogy seminars and reunions on the site. Seems a little unusual to have it on a weekday... Joe D. Betsy, I read your posting with great interest as it is the first time I have seen anyone mention the SHINE name on the list (besides me now and then). My great-grandfather was the youngest son of John William SHINE and Laura Jane STINGLEY. John William's mother, Hester Jane ASHLEY SHINE was widowed during the Civil War and married Rev. Thomas Benton FERGUSON in Washington County and brought John William to Bell County when he was just a small boy, along with his 2 younger sisters. Which SHINE branch do you belong to?
