    3. Hello List, It's been a while since I've been in touch, but I'm looking for information on M E Bartley (we believe it is Mary Emma - at least we know it's Emma) Bartley who was born somewhere in Texas and she married my great grandfather Joel Benjamin Rogers (JB) in August of 1880 in Bell Co., TX.  I would like to know any information anyone might have about her...who her parents were, where she might have been born, etc.  She seems to be one of those people who is very hard to find anything about and I have not been able to locate any information on her. If anyone knows anything about this family, I would be grateful for the information. Thank You In Advance, Eileen Rogers Mullins [email protected] _________________________________________________________________ Frustrated with dial-up? Surnames: Hilliard, Hillyard Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CkB.2ACI/1933 Message Board Post: According to a newspaper article I have in hand, in August 1894 a number of people were travelling through Colorado County on their way from Bell County to Jackson County. The group was camped south of Columbus when a storm came up. Lightning struck the wagon of Tom and Mary "Hillyard," killing them both. Tom, 22, and Mary 20, were buried in Columbus. The article says they had sold their property in Bell County and purchased property in Jackson County. The article also says that they had a baby who survived the lightning strike, but "with a livid red streak encircling one of its eyes and also around its neck, and a large red spot just behind one ear." This description aroused my curiosity. I have the two volume Bell County history, but can find nothing in it about these people. I note that two Hilliards wrote a piece about the family of John Lafayette Hilliard, but I did not see Tom mentioned. What I would like to know is, what became of this baby? Was it a boy or a girl? Was it adopted by another family on the expedition and raised in Jackson County? Was it sent back to Bell County to be raised by relatives? Is there any memory of a person in the Hilliard family who had marks on his or her face like those described? Perhaps this child became the first superhero, able to shoot lightning from his fingertips. If so, perhaps he or she maintained a secret identity? If not, can anyone identify him or her?

    3. Sharon, I asked the county clerk (Vada Sutton) about probate records a while back and she says they have them on file going back to 1850, the start of Bell County. You might see if you can order a copy by mail: http://www.bellcountytx.com/countyclerk/index.htm http://www.bellcountytx.com/countyclerk/bccrs.htm In fact, here is exactly what she stated: "Our probate records go from 1850 to present date. We have original papers in most instances. Some are missing, but we have the books that most of the papers are recorded in our old probate minutes (I have all of the minutes books). To answer the first question about the female ancestor. If she had minor children and had real estate, very likely before a sale could occur a guardianship was set up. The second question about the male - if those children were minors, you would have had the same situation. It would depend on the age of the children. However, they could have probated the estate in either instance for whatever reason. You will also find that a lot of times, people had affidavits of heirship filed in the deed records to dispose of property. It depends mostly on what the estate consisted of." Good luck... Joe D. I have a copy of his will, dated Feb. 20, 1893, and he mentiones his children, and the four children (who would be his grandchildren) of Parthenia and Alonzo Clark. 3. Hello, Can anyone tell me how to get the settlement papers on the estate of my gg-grandfather, Daniel C. Goode, who died 7 Feb 1897 in Moffett, Bell Co., TX? I have a copy of his will, dated Feb. 20, 1893, and he mentiones his children, and the four children (who would be his grandchildren) of Parthenia and Alonzo Clark. I am trying to prove that my grandfather was Parthenia's son. He wasn't born for the 1870 census, and she was dead by the 1880 census. I have a letter he wrote in 1931 to perhaps lawyers (Messrs. Rose and Sample) who were apparently working on the behalf of Mrs. Viola Loviette, who was my grandfather's niece. In the letter he states: "Mrs. Viola Loviette has a little interest in some estate in Bell Co. in Texas. That is Grandpa Goodes estate. Your mother's part is $132.59 the land has been sold and the money is on deposit at Belton, Tex. I. N. Goode is the administrator, his address is Moody, Tex. Write to I. N. Goode, Moody, Tex. for the papers to sign. That is all they have to do the money is on deposit at Belton, Tex. Mrs. Wildry Clark Garrett died in the month of Feb. 1898." Wildry Clark Garrett was my grandfather's older sister. If Mrs. Viola Loviette had a little interest in the estate in Bell Co., I am assuming my grandfather did, too, and I need copies of the distribution of the estate. Is there anyone who can get these for me? I will be happy to pay for this. If there is anyone who can help me, please let me know. Thank you, and have a good evening. Best wishes, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX [email protected]

    1. [TXBELL] Robert Williams, b 1862
    2. I am seeking any information on Robert Williams, born about 1862 in Alabama. He is last documented in the 1880 census of Phillips County, AR, living in the household with his parents and siblings. They were on their way to Texas, where they first settled near Holland in Bell County. The parents and the oldest son (Andrew Jackson Williams) lived near Holland for an unknown period of time. One brother (Benjamin Franklin Williams) stayed in Arkansas for a time, then settled in Grayson County, TX. Another brother lived in Arkansas and Texas ()Jerome N. Williams). The mother is buried in Dallas Cemetery, Bell County. The father is buried in Grayson County. The oldest sibling migrated to Milam County, where he lived near Cameron. Does anyone on the list have a Robert Williams matching any of this information without a family? He maly have stayed in Arkansas with one of his older borthers or he may have died prior to the 1900 census - I have not found a Robert Williams, age 38, residing in either Bell or Milam counties.

    3. For those researching the Dallas Cemetery, the following obit appeared in the Bartlett Tribune and News on Friday, December 12, 1913. Grandma Ford Dead Yesterday afternoon, about 1:30 o'clock, Mrs. Ford, familiar- ly known as Grandma Ford, sud- denly expired at her home in this city. She had been sick for the past week, confined to her bed, but her condition was not considered serious. While the family were at dinner she at- tempted to rise from her bed and fell---never regaining conscious- ness, and soon her spirit was called where "the weary are at rest." Mrs. Ford was 82 years of age, and was among the oldest set- tlers of this section, ahving re- sided in Bartlett with her son, Ed Ford, and her daughter, Mrs. Wright, for many years. She was a member of the Christian church, a good neighbor, a lov- ing mother, who will be greatly missed. Her husband preceeded her to the grave several years ago. She leaves one son and two daughters to mourn her death. They are: Ed Ford, Mrs. Wright, Bartlett, and Mrs. J. D. Jackson, Alpine. To the bereaved we extend our sympathy. May a kind Provi- dence be over them, and may they so live that when the sum- mons shall come, they will be re- united iwth the one for whom they now mourn. Mrs. Ford's remains will be laid to rest in the Dallas ceme- tery, near Holland tomorrow.
