Dear Tammy: Just logged on to your Bastrop County site and checked the cemetery listing. Would like to bring you up to date on the Baylor Family Cemetery. My Great Grandparents as well as two of their children are buried in the Baylor Family Cemetery on the S. Darling League, which is on the property of Bill Viviano; FM 535, Smithville, TX. A cousin of mine, John D. Baylor of Austin, TX. received permission from Mr. Viviano in May of 2000 for some of the descendants of George Wythe and Augusta Indiana Thompson Baylor to come clean up, place 2 new headstones, fence in and install a 3" brass plate, surface mounted "Baylor Cemetery 1891". There were 13 descendants there to work on the cemetery. I was one of them, and we had a wonderful time working together. Also, we had a young pastor from Smithville out to rededicate the cemetery. I don't have the date of the copy of the Smithville Times, but soon after our work was completed in May, our picture and a write up was in the Smithville paper. This done, application was made to the Texas Historical Commission in November of 2000, for "our" Baylor cemetery to be named a Historic Texas Cemetery. The application was approved and we now have certification from The State of Texas, Texas Historical Commission certifying that the Baylor Family Cemetery is recorded as a Historic Texas Cemetery. The 4 grave sites in "our" cemetery are: George Wythe Baylor (Husband) Born 20 February 1835---Died 7 November, 1906 Augusta Indiana Thompson Baylor (Wife)-----Born 16 October 1846--- Died 11 March 1931 Katie Baylor (Daughter) Born 20 October 1878---Died 26 May, 1911 Walker Milton Baylor (Son) Born 13 October 1887---Died 1 January 1891. Thought you would like to have this update. Beat Regards Jane Beattie Beaumont, TX.
