Although some of you may not have a connection to these early Texans, their bravery and sacrifice became an inspiration to people throughout the country and contributed to the western movement that developed this great country of ours. Although Texas is often the butt of many jokes, most Texans, both native and adopted, follow a tradition of pride and independence. This same pride and independence can be found in the hearts of most citizens. Every citizen of every state in these United States should make an effort to celebrate, at least in his or her heart, the settlement of his own home state. Please take a moment today to remember the hardships, sorrows and sacrifices made by our forefamilies in their struggle to make their home in this great land.
