We have been given a gift in the form of newspaper extracts from the Bastrop Advertisor 1854-1881. Sara, the submitter, owns microfilm that contains the Bastrop Advertisor on them and a few years ago, for a project, she pulled names, dates, etc out and typed them up. She has gratiously submitted her work to the Bastrop County website. The amazing thing to me is that she doesn't have ancestors from here but just chose Bastrop County for her project. We can make her an honorary cousin. The first file that has been uploaded is Bastrop area businesses, by date then alpha by person's name (and includes the date listed in the newspaper). These are from 1854-1879. I am splitting up the other file, containing all other information from 5/27/1854 to 2/26/1881, into smaller files, by date and will upload these as soon as I finish. She has more notes to type up and will forward those later. She also has another film, not indexed, that she is willing to do lookups for if the date of the event is known (such as death date). I will put the specific information in the Lookup section of the Bastrop page. If you don't have access to the microfilm and would like a copy of a page that is mentioned in the extracts, to receive the complete article, Sara would be happy to do that for reimbursement of expenses (one whole dollar) that will help with gas to the library, postage, and copy fee. Sara is as excited about this project as we are so if you find her information beneficial to your research, please let her know. Her email address is at the top of the page with the abstract/extract. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Curtis Craig for sharing his obits with us on the Craig and Outlaw families from McDade. Good Work! PS. The Pettytown reunion is the first Sunday in May at the Pettytown Cemetery. Bring a dish. A special MyFamily.com website has been set up for Petty researchers. Look for Margie Petty's queries on the query page and email her if you want to subscribe to the site. Take Care!
