    1. [TXBASTRO] going to DC National Archives
    2. I'm fortunate enough to be able to go to DC at least once a year with my job. I'm going next week, and besides some brick walls of my own, I want to try and get some civil war military files on some of the Bastrop County folks. I don't have a lot of time, but I can try and get copies for some of you on your civil war veterans from Texas Units. If the copiers are busy that will hurt in getting a bunch of them. And the copies will only be as good as was copied on the microfilm. If you will email me by this Saturday (June 24th) with the soldiers name, unit, where enlisted if known and any other info you think will help, I will try and get a copy of the records for you. Please send the request to the Bastropcc@aol.com address with subject of civil war. The military records are on little cards, microfilmed in order, by the unit, then soldier's name. If the person was an officer there could be several cards as anything with their name is microfilmed together. It costs .25 cents per page and I can copy about 3-4 cards on a page. It isn't your regular size page but a lot larger. The cards tell where they enlisted and each time they were counted present or absent. My relative had supply recs where he bought fodder for the horses and that he was put in the hospital. I also found another that was a POW, that info was new to us, and got a record of him and the men he was in prisoned with at Charlotte, NC. I have some names, taken from information on cemetery headstones, but I would like to get some that people are searching for. If nothing else, I would like get a list of the units from Bastrop, if anyone has them, as I can try and copy the unit history.
