    2. Melba Bishop
    3. Hello, I am new to the list and would like to acquaint you with my search. I am researching the family and descendants of Stephen Bishop and his wife Susan Bryce who were married in Austin in 1855 and lived in Bastrop County until their deaths. Susan was the sister of Charlotte Bryce who married Benjamin Lyman. Ben Lyman and Stephen Bishop were in business together. I would be most interested in learing if anyone on the list is doing any of these families. Thanks, Melba Bishop Bastropcc@aol.com wrote: > OK, I received a copy of the Bastrop County Death Records book. 1. [TXBASTRO] funeral book
    2. OK, I received a copy of the Bastrop County Death Records book. Not mine though as Karen forgot to send it and now, since they ran out, they are printing more. I was able to borrow one until mine gets here next week. It is a spiral, soft covered, book, with deaths sorted by date of death. It has date death filed, place of death, names of deceased, sex, race (this is not just a book of white folks deaths, all races are listed), marriage status, name of father and mother, date of death, cause, physician, place of burial, burial date and undertaker. There are spelling mistakes such as Pettytown Cemetery is written as Petty? Tom? but these can be figured out. All in all it is good to have it and it has irreplacable information in it. It goes from September 1917 to March 1940. Of course, not all deaths in that timeframe is listed as this was one record book, but there are 1671 names and information. It's not just from the undertaker Schewe either, Luckett, Dawson, Bryson, Grimes, Combs and other undertaker's info is in here. Have to figure out a few things like is the City Cemetery, Bastrop Cemetery and Fairview Cemetery the same one. Recognized lots of names. Other cemeteries are mentioned that I haven't seen before. It is hoped that the owner, Jim Cox, will donate the original to the Bastrop Museum and I was told that was being worked on. We are fortunate that he allowed this journal to be transcribed. Again, if someone wants to purchase one: Send $12.00 check made out to Save Texas Cemeteries Save Texas Cemeteries c/o Karen Thompson 7203 South Ute Trail Austin, TX 78729 (512)258-5688 And again, I am not affiliated with this organization, just letting you know a new source for information. 1. [TXBASTRO] Perkins and Davis
    2. Chyane LeMasters
    3. This is my first posting to this list. I am searching for the ancestors of Erah Davis Elmore b 1892 in Bastrop County, Texas to William Davis and Margaret Elizabeth Perkins. Erah Davis married William Washington Elmore and at some point moved to Tulare County, California where she died in 1975. I do not know any further information on William Davis other than he died in 1948 in Collingsworth County Texas. Margaret Elizabeth Perkins b 1863 d 1937 was b to James and Margaret Perkins. No further information. The 1880 Bastrop County Texas index has the following: Perkins, James E D 14 168 Davis, William E D 11 108 Davis, William E D 14 167 Note the closeness in households of the Perkins and Davis. The 1870 Bastrop County Texas index has the following: Davis W B 515 Perkins John 512 Does anyone have any info on these families? Can anyone do a lookup on the 1870 and 1880 Census on the families listed? I would appreciate any help. Ive been searching for a year now and have never gotten any leads. Thankyou Paula

Right now, I just have too much on my plate to continue with the Bastrop list. 1. [TXBASTRO] going to DC National Archives
    2. I'm fortunate enough to be able to go to DC at least once a year with my job. I'm going next week, and besides some brick walls of my own, I want to try and get some civil war military files on some of the Bastrop County folks. I don't have a lot of time, but I can try and get copies for some of you on your civil war veterans from Texas Units. If the copiers are busy that will hurt in getting a bunch of them. And the copies will only be as good as was copied on the microfilm. If you will email me by this Saturday (June 24th) with the soldiers name, unit, where enlisted if known and any other info you think will help, I will try and get a copy of the records for you. Please send the request to the Bastropcc@aol.com address with subject of civil war. The military records are on little cards, microfilmed in order, by the unit, then soldier's name. If the person was an officer there could be several cards as anything with their name is microfilmed together. It costs .25 cents per page and I can copy about 3-4 cards on a page. It isn't your regular size page but a lot larger. The cards tell where they enlisted and each time they were counted present or absent. My relative had supply recs where he bought fodder for the horses and that he was put in the hospital. I also found another that was a POW, that info was new to us, and got a record of him and the men he was in prisoned with at Charlotte, NC. I have some names, taken from information on cemetery headstones, but I would like to get some that people are searching for. If nothing else, I would like get a list of the units from Bastrop, if anyone has them, as I can try and copy the unit history. It is available here through the generosity of the Harbert Davenport family. The manuscript includes 651 biographical sketches of the men of the ill-fated 1936 Goliad Campaign of the Texas Revolution. The Bibliography page provides links to many of Davenport's sources, which are now online. H. 1. [TXBASTRO] Epidemics in History
    2. This came across a list I belong to today and I am passing it to all of the lists I subscribe to as it may be useful to you. I have already sent it to the lists that I manage and received a good response. Sometimes, if you can look through your family tree and note that a lot of people (especially children and the elderly) died in the same year within a short time of each other, and the year is lisded as one for an epidemic, they may have died from the epidemic. Hope it helps you, or at least informs you! Vince Thanks to Jane A. of OHMIAMI-L for first posting this. I saw one similar in a newsletter years ago and lost it. ___ >Year Ailment Place Extra info >1350 Bubonic plague WW* >1499 Bubonic plague UK London >1507 "Fever" UK* 1507-51 >1551 Influenza UK >1555 Famine UK Rains brought famine & weakness >1556 Bubonic plague UK *1556-63 Extreme >1578 Bubonic plague UK >1586 Bubonic plague UK*Chesterfield.
