    3. Tammy - Ooops - guess I should have clarified... I'm in San Antonio, and was just curious how I could help, but guess I need to start here with Bexar County. I wouldn't mind to work on Bastrop info but would need someone to scan and send me the pages. If that's possible, then I'd be happy to help. Otherwise, guess I'll stick to stuff here in SA. On a side note, my sister and I will be visiting your library on Saturday 12/9 to sift through the newspapers and microfilm for anything regarding Ellen Jane Williams/Perkins/Clardy/Perkins and her son Ernest D Williams. Keep your fingers crossed that we find something! Thanks for the info... 1. [TXBASTRO] transcribing projects
    2. For those that have time and want to help getting Bastrop County information online here are a few suggestions. The 1860 census is online but only in images. This makes using a search engine impossible. If you want to transcribe these, you can start with the index that is online, fill in the rest of the family information and the typed file can be sent to the rootsweb archives or the census project and therefore searchable. Newspaper pages are also online in images. You can type some of the pages up, save it using the date of the page, and it can be put on the page in the place of the image and to the archives to be searchable. Online images for the 1920 census are on www.ancestry.com if you have a subscription, with more years to come this next year. There are also cd's with census images on them that you can purchase. This way you can transcribe from home. I go to the library, print out the images from microfilm, then scan them. The only problem with that is it takes 3 prints to make a page, costing 30 cents to get a page of the census. There were so many travelers during the early years that someone may be looking for someone that was here and captured on the census but until it is transcribed, they can't be found using the rootsweb search engines. And then there are the commissioners court records that are in image form also. So, there is lots to do. The images are nice but hard to read and it takes longer to find a name or place, not being able to use the browser's find feature. I would suggest that if someone wants to transcribe some of these documents, just let us know so there won't be duplicate work efforts. If you Dena and Lisa want to work on a project together or with others, then the complete project can be done faster. And thank you!! 1. [TXBASTRO] Williams/Walters/Perkins/Clardy
    2. D Stripling
    3. Ernest D (David, we think) Williams, son of David C. Williams and Ellen Jane Walters, was my grandfather. He married Myrtle Lee Miller in San Antonio, Bexar County, TX. Ernest & Myrtle lived in San Saba and Austin before they separated around 1928. My grandmother refused to speak of her husband to her children, so we have very little to go on. Ernest died in Austin, Travis County, TX, on 11/22/1960, and the death certificate indicates that his body was taken to Cook Funeral Home in Bastrop. There is an Ernest L Williams buried at Alum Creek, and I suspect that this could possibly be Ernest D. His mother, Ellen Jane (Walters) Williams, divorced and is said to have married to a Perkins, a Clardy and another Perkins and had other children. She is buried in Alum Creek Cemetery in Bastrop (with only a rock at her head) next to Aaron Eal, Aaron P and Myrtle Perkins, according to information we found at the Bastrop courthouse and to a Francis (?) Perkins my father spoke with several years ago. She is not shown on the Alum Creek Cemetery listing on the internet. We have also been told that she may have come to Texas from Missouri after having been adopted, and that she was of Native American Indian descent. Her name prior to adoption might have been Grey or Gray. Mrs. Perkins was very hesitant to speak of Ernest, which of course leads us to suspect he wasn't such a wonderful guy! Good or bad, we'd still like to learn about Ernest, his parents, and siblings. Hope someone in Bastrop knows something and will be more willing to share. Sincerely, Dena Stripling San Antonio __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Shopping - Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. http://shopping.yahoo.com/

According to an article I found at the Texas State Library, they were living with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and William Good at the time of their deaths. The article stated "During the last years of Mr. Perry, Mrs. Tyson devoted her whole time to ministering to every wish of her beloved Father. And though suffering herself with a lingering ill health served to forget her own suffering in endeavoring to relieve those of her Father." What I have may be the obituaries for Elizabeth and her father William Perry. The file at the State Library only stated "From a Published Article" called "Another Veteran Gone". Glenda, did I send this to you previously? If anyone has any more info., would be glad to communicate! Lisa Bass Burnet County, Texas
