The following are recent uploads to the Bastrop County page: 2 files submitted by Diane Bender: Extractions from many CSA pension applications: Main site, military, CSA records, Pensions Wonderful petition about Chambliss and Foreman desiring to be released from service due to deaths of wives' from measles and leaving little children, listing many Bastrop names. Shows the closeness of this community, in my opinion. Located on the pension bulletin board: main page, link to pensions, Chambliss/Foreman post I have begun to transcribe the 1860 census. The images were large and still hard to read so I'm trying to get it typed up and posted and not continue with the images. This way it's searchable also. I've put what I have so far and am adding the family names to the head of household list I had. I also have to go back to the beginning of the file and check the spelling of the names I've already done. If you see some names that are spelled wrong, please let me know. I'm up to the Serbin (Now Lee Co area) area that had John Killian and his followers. I happen to have a book (thanks to ebay and Lisa) that lists most of these people so I can add a little more info then what the census asked for. >From main page, link to census, 1860 census link And for something neat to watch, go to the RootsLady's site and watch her slideshows. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txsabine/burials/index_1.htm http://lest-we-forget.rootsweb.com/cemetery/index.htm It is suggested that if your computer is slow, go to the page, go do something else for a little while, then come back and start the slides. This way it is all loaded up and ready to go and will go faster. I'm looking for a close relative for a friend. His name is Harold Lee Fogle. Or that was his name when he was born in San Antonio. His mom is Rosavon Scott Fogle. She divorced his Dad Otis Fogle i think in San antonio but was born in Bastrom. They divorced between 1955 and 1959. I think finding her or her family might be the best way to find him. After the divorce Rosavon and Harold moved to Calif. and he could have been adopted by a stepfather. His birth date is May 29, 1955. Judy has been looking for him for 30 plus years. He has no way of knowing she was born because her Dad was never told of her birth. If you have any info. you would make someone very happy. He also told me exactly where to turn, how many water faucets to count and was not bothered at all with my jabbering about how long we've been looking for this bunch. There was some Walkers there with huge markers and a placque but I don't remember the first names. The Babe of the Alamo is buried there and Capt. There is also the Texas State Cemetery and it is on line, with pictures. People had to qualify to be buried there, such as being a government official, or dying in the civil war home. Several folks from Bastrop were reinterred there. I too am frustrated by other states. Some only because the courthouses were burned during the civil war (Early/Baker counties in Georgia). Hi Tammy! Just read this and was curious. Is there a person working on the Oakwood Cemetery. (As far as a list of the people buried there? I have finished most of the Samuel Craft line that pertains to my direct line but have also obtained other information on some of his other children. The only hole in my information is John Samuel Craft and his wife Abagail Thompson. Have never been able to find their burial place. Been told most of the Crafts are buried in Oakwood. I met a great lady on he net Sandra Hilton who's greatgrandfather was a slave of Samuel Craft. She was a great help. She lives in Seattle, Wa. and have not been able to reach her since the earthquake. Hope she is o.k. Just want to tell you how great it has been working on my tree with the state of TEXAS. I am now working on another branch of my tree and the state I have to work with only sells their information, I guess I would pay if I knew what I was buying. If you pay, there's no guarantee that its "your" specific family. Oh well, I worked on the Craft a long time before I found your people so I know if I keep trying I'll find the answer. I would be more that happy to share any information. Crafts, Moores,Burlesons, Townsends, Walkers and Hargett's and Garrison's are my direct bloodline.(all TEXAN'S) Thanks again Tammy, you do a great job. Jacque Fitzgerald
Exciting news. Surveyers called a friend of mine and stated that they had found 6 headstones near the Addison Litton Cemetery in Cedar Creek. We went to the Addison Litton Cemetery area and didn't find another cemetery but looked around again in this one and found some new headstones that I hadn't see the last time I went. Not sure if this is the same headstones that the surveyers found so this will be confirmed later. Anyway we searched a wider range of ground this time and found 4 graves together, with only one readable. This was for Robert Winans. States "Was born 1839, Departed in 1840". Again, the other three next to him were made out of limestone and no longer readable. Then with a stroke of luck I stumbled across the Waddle grave. It was buried in the dirt but I spotted the foot marker sticking out of the ground and looked for the headstone. Found it buried, including the base, so we dug it up and stood it back in the base. I also took some of the cemetery iris that was in another part and put it in front of the stone. This was for John E. Waddle, son of P. D. and C. V. Waddle. Born 12/25/1876 and died 8/20/1878. I poked around some but didn't find any others by him. This is the cemetery that Addison Litton is buried in. Addison had the headright. This part was later bought by Evans Mabry, who was buried there with other family members. Just a few weeks ago it was found that the Mabry family was dug up and moved to the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. I'm having pictures developed showing this. The Oakwood Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Austin. The Mabrys have the [Addison Litton] cemetery mentioned in their deed when the property was sold. The property is overgrown with cactus and we did run across a snake. I took pictures of the cemetery. There is lots of cemetery iris around and several stones that do not have names on them anymore. I will post these pictures real soon. I did follow the fence line and found another section on the other side of the fence that had a patch of cemetery iris but no markers. Believe this to be african american because of the separation. Hope there is family looking for these headstones and can now rest knowing where they are. I'm glad the weather is getting better so I can get to the cemeteries again. My great grandmother was Monterrey Williams. I only have a little about her family. James Williams born (?) from Pike Co. AL married Keziah (?). They had a son, Earvin Yancey Williams who was born about 1825 in AL (?) and died (?). He married Eliza Carolina Hufham from Ramer, Montgomery Co. AL, on Aug 31, 1843 in Lavaco, Co. TX. To them was born my great grandmother Monterrey on Feb 13, 1859. She married Frances Marion Phillips from (?). They gave birth to my grandmother, Maggie Laura Phillips in 1883 in Bastrop Co., TX. She married my grandfather, Elanson (Lantie) Gillespie. I doubt that my James is the same James Williams you have listed. It would have made him around 100 years old.
