Jeannine, The Youngs are my line, but the only thing I had on Matilda's [Young Meeks] husband was the record of their marriage license, and it gave only initials. Do you have birth and death years and places for Suddeth, Jr.? Do you know how long they stayed in Bastrop Co. and where they went afterward? Do you know his profession? I believe that Matilda died in NM, but vital statistics there won't search for a death certificate unless I am next of kin--no farther removed than grandchild. We are searching for her mother's maiden name, and I was hoping that one of her daughters would have given that information at her death. Ruth
Ruth I have that Matilda YOUNG married 10 Nov 1886 Suddeth MEEKS, Jr., who was the son of Suddeth MEEKS (8 Feb 1832 Missouri - 1896 Bastrop Co., TX) and Adeline STANLEY (ca 1835 - 1882). I have more generations of ancestors of Suddeth MEEKS if you'd like, and considerably more MEEKS family information. Jeannine
Jeannine, Do you know more about your Sarah Meeks' family? I have a Matilda Young who married M.L. Meeks Nov 10, 1886 in Bastrop Co. and that is all I know about him. Ruth Young Crowson
Tammy: Following is a change for the 1860 Bastrop Co census: Page 56 - Fam 470/432 SPEARS, Lealome? name is SPEARS, Seaborne (actually SPEIR) his wife Sarah's maiden name is MEEKS This is for information only. The information you have is wonderful. Thank you very much for your work on our behalf. Jeannine
There has been some confustion as to where the bulletin board links have gone. Ancestry and Rootsweb became one. In doing so they decided to merge the bulletin boards. It is going through a transition at the moment and the kinks are being worked out. You will no longer find the individual puzzle pieces but will find one link. You can search the bulletin board and will get all the information on the name you put in that appears on all of the prior bulletin boards. Sometimes you cannot get to the information as their server has crashed a few times in the past few days or there is too much traffic. So hang in there until everything is worked out. Once it's fixed you will be able to search a name on a specific site or on all of the sites. You don't have to register to search, but have to when you submit information. The reason for this is that when you change your email it will change it for all prior messages you left in the past. That's a cool function so you don't have to contact each place you left a message in the past in order to change your email address. I also changed the site around some. I had frames but that doesn't work for everyone so I changed it to a straight list and that wasn't desired so I put the table format back up. Hope this works for everyone, knowing we all have different computers, browsers and internet service providers. Don't overlook the usgenweb archives. This is fully searchable. Go to the following link and look at what's there or put in a name and search. If you have information you would like to post, email the volunteer that administers the site. One valuable piece of information is the death, birth, marriage and divorce links. Use the search engine and it will quickly search these sites for you. One thing, I saw an error where my grandparents names are slightly wrong attached to my Uncle's name on the birth index. Yes, I'm sure he's their child. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/bastrop/basttoc.htm Have a safe and Happy Fourth of July. Dear Michele. Yes, I have a James Williams who came to TX from AR and MS in about 1850. He was married to Sarah Jane Masters from MS when she was 16 yr. in 1848. They are found on the 1850 Caldwell Co., TX census with son Thomas age 2 of MS. They resided back and forth between Bastrop and Caldwell Co.s. James and Sarah are buried in Pettytown Cemetery in Red Rock, Bastrop Co., TX. I have not found any tie to Brooks or Earvin Wms. Thanks for the reply, maybe we can find a link somewhere. PS: some descendants say James was from somewhere in AR. Thanks again, Lorrie
I thought those of you looking for pictures or information on graves might like a couple of links I found. Go to the main Bastrop page and take the cemetery link. At the top of the cemetery listings page I have the links to Find-A-Grave and Cemetery Photo Volunteers. Both have photos. The Cemetery Photo Volunteers will go get pictures for you in certain states and counties, some just for the cost of getting the pictures. <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~txbastro/bastrop.htm">Bastrop County</A> Tammy Owen Bastrop County Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~txbastro/bastrop.htm <A HREF="http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=5647408&siteid=35098265&bfpage=digbutton">Ancestry.com - View Census Images Online</A> The Best! with subscription. <A HREF="http://www.myfamiliesname.com/?AID=2834348&PID=849435">MyFamiliesName.com - "Preserving and Reserving Your Family Name Online."</A> <A HREF="http://www.qksrv.net/click-849435-487817">Go to the AandE, Biography and The History Channels</A> And the best place to find new and used genealogy stuff? <A HREF="http://www.qksrv.net/click-849435-1643272">EBay - the world's online marketplace</A> and <A HREF="http://www.qksrv.net/click-849435-168019">Half.com: The Smartest Place to Buy and Sell Genealogy material.</A>

Hi, Lorrie Could any of the following have a connection with your Williams line? I have ties to Earvin Yancey Williams, born 1825 in AL and resided in Bastrop Co. His Father was James Williams but I have no further information on him. Earvin (Ervin?) married Eliza Carolina Hufham and their daughter, Monterrey Williams married Frances Marion Phillips. Their daughter, Maggie Phillips married my grandfather, Lantie Miller Gillespie at Hills Prairie, TX in about 1905.. They are buried in the Beaukiss, TX cemetery in Williamson Co, TX. Ruth, I actually went there and got the inscriptions. It's been a while so I can't tell you exactly where the stones were located. There is a book at the Bastrop Library. There are several volumes that are tall and yellow that have some surveys in there tho not the inscriptions. You may want to stop by there first and get the exact locations of the graves before going to the cemetery unless you just want to look at every one again. When I went I took my tape recorder and said all the information and then typed it up, not keeping it in the location order but alphabetizing it later. One day I hope to go back and get pictures of all the headstones and load them up on find a grave website. Just a reply. On Scurry Co., Tx website Ms Charlene Beaucham has the families send her the pictures and she puts them on the Cemetery site. Real Neat. Tammy Owen, On your cemetery listings there is : Wood, E. E. Elizabeth 3/24/1871 2/15/1891 Tis hard to break the tender cord when love has bound the heart. Tis hard to speak the word we must forever part. Dearest loved one we have laid thee in the peace and gives embrace and thy memory will be ever ? till we meet thy heavenly face Young's Prairie (Young's Prairie 1704) Wood, J. W. Jr 7/24/1890 ?/15/1891 Son of J. W. and Ellie Young's Prairie (Young's Prairie 1704) When I first saw them in a list of Young's Prairie burials [but without dates] looked for them in that cemetery, but I have never found them. Can you give me help on their location in the cemetery? Is there a map of the cemetery? Have you, yourself seen them, or did someone else give the information? I would really appreciate any help you can give. By the way--Young's Prairie was named for Michael Young, who bought the NW 1/2 of Elizabeth Standifer's league. His son Wm. J. Young continued to live on part of that property until about 1896. Elizabeth, who married J.W. Wood, was Wm. J's daughter. Family tradition says that Wm. J. and his wife Martha J. are also buried at Young's Prairie. Ruth Crowson rycrowson@austin.rr.com
New files: Lunacy Court Records from 1911. I've got the index up and information on the first 100 cases. This file is listed under the Court link from the main page. County Court Volume B: Index is up and under the Court link from the main page. I'm typing up the records now. I consolidated all my indexes and cemetery inscriptions and put them in one file to aid me with the spelling of some of the names. It also contains the up to date cemetery inscriptions that I have but haven't uploaded before. On a census record it might be spelled one way and the headstone inscription another way. So I uploaded this file for you to easily find several sources for your people but you have to look at other possible spellings. The only thing is that this is a hugh file. It's also color coded by type of record. So load it up, go do the laundry, then come back and search. And yes, Lisa, I'm still an ebay shopper. Got a brand new winter wardrobe of new suits at less than $15 a piece with tags still on and bloomingdales dresses for $5 each. Plus an almost new laptop for $500. I added links to ebay on the pages since it's free for everyone to look and you can find good deals on genealogy material. Lost a relative after 1909? Could be they were sent to the State Insane Asylum in Austin, TX for a while. I have posted the whole index for the volume that has this information, on the Deeds section on the Bastrop County website. There are two cemeteries for the people that died while being there but the headstones only have numbers on them. I'll have to find my phone number for the grounds keeper and they will do look ups if you give them the name. They still consider the information privileged. At the end of the list is the questions that were asked. ***** is where the information was entered in the record book. In the records is the judge and jury names plus the amount they got paid. I was able to get the information on the people up to about page 50 so I'll type that up and get them posted too. It's a great source for some of our missing people, plus has 6 names, on each page, of residents that served on the jury.
