IH-59 South, near El Campo in Wharton County. Nonmembers and guests are always welcome at our meetings. Registration begins at 8:30 A.M., followed by refreshments, music and exhibits.The welcome address will be delivered by Marie Matcek, Wharton County Chapter President, District Judge Daniel Sklar, and El Campo Mayor, Kenneth Martin. Retta Chandler will report on the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange. The speaker's address will be delivered at 11 A.M. Lunch is served at 12 Noon. The East Bernard Czech Singers will entertain during the lunch hour. The business meeting will begin at 1 P.M. George Rhodes, of the Six Mile community in Calhoun County, will be the featured speaker. He is a graduate of South Texas School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar in 1954. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII from 1943-46. Presently, George is Chairman of the Calhoun County Historical Commission, a position he has held since 1973. He is very active in his quest for the preservation of historical happenings and artifacts in Calhoun County and the surrounding areas. In addition to his law practice, he is also involved in farming and oil and gas activities, and resides in the Six Mile community on property that was purchased by his grandfather in 1897. Exhibits, books and genealogy information will be available. If your chapter would like to have a display space reserved, a two week notification prior to the meeting is requested. For-profit vendors may reserve a space at $25.00 per table with two weeks advance notice. Contact Marie Matcek @ 409 648-2303 to reserve your space. Also, please notify your local chapter president, so they, in turn, can notify Ms. Matcek if you plan to attend the meeting. Nonmembers may contact Marie directly at 409-648-2303 to ask her to reserve a meal for you. The TEXAS VETERANS OF CZECH ANCESTRY book will be available for purchase at this meeting. It contains over 2500 biographies, submitted by family members, of men and women who served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. These men and women were either immigrants or descendants of immigrants of the Czech Lands, now known as the Czech Republic.
