I am also researching the Schroeder lineage. My part of the Schroeder came to Texas in 1872 and settled in Cat Spring. A lot of the names of the children are same as some of the ones you mentioned in your lineage. You don't suppose they are related. My relatives came from the Mecklinberg Schwerin area. My great grand father's name was Christian Schroeder and he was listed in the 1980 census as a day laborer. I have heard of County Poor Farms, but the only one I have ever seen was in New Hampton, Iowa. It was a facility that cared for and provided a home for the elderly indigents.
