James M. Hinson married Elizabeth J. Hudson in Stanley Co.,NC They had three daughters: Samantha Eva b.1876,Dell b.abt 1878,and Minnie Violet b.abt 1880. They left NC via wagon train with a large group abt 1880. James told family that he was going to Georgia, which they did. They did not stay long and ended up in Texas. Some of the older members of our family say that they went to Bellville and eventually moved to Leon Co.,Texas. James M.Hinson is not burried with the rest of the family in north east Texas and I am assuming that he died in Bellville. My g grandmother often told us of the wagon trip to Texas. That she was a little girl and walked along side the animals. She described riding ponies near the farm in Bellville and hearing panthers scream. She also mentioned that one of the Hinson men went to a tavern and got into an argument with some men that were making rude remarks about women that dipped snuff. (This could have been her father) He shot the men and rode to tell the family that he had to leave town. He went to Leon Co. and sent for the family. Family members claimed that he jumped at the sound of gunfire from then on and always felt like someone was comming for him. However, in reality,I can find no record of him at all in Leon Co. Does anyone on the list have access to any news records of that time where such an event would be listed? I know that there is no 1890 Census, but could you tell me if there would be land records or cemetery records for Belville? Has anyone heard of such a tale or people? Karen Kerr
