Posted on: Austin County, Tx Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Austin?read=362 Surname: EDGLEY, WELCH, DERRYBERRY, LEWIS, SCHULTZ ------------------------- Paue, I only found this family one time, in the 1880 Austin County Census records. The head of the house was L. Edgley & the film was so poor that I could read his wife's name, it looked a little like Schelly but I donot think this is correct. It also stated they were from North Carolina. This must be the correct family, there was only one Edgley in the whole state of Texas. I would be most greatful for any information you would share with me, as I have nothing except the husband of their eldest daughter Bettie Ann Edgley-Welch. Patricia schiro@gte.net
Posted on: Austin County, Tx Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Austin?read=361 Surname: JOHNSON, SOLOMAN, EDGLEY, TOWNSEND, KING ------------------------- My JOHNSON's came out of North Carolina, and there was a Lemuel Edgley out that line in Austin County around the late 1800's. My GG Grandfather Nathan Bryant JOHNSON married Carrie SOLOMAN in 1893 there, she died in child birth around 1900. He then married Maggie Townsend KING in 1901. The Johson moved to Montgomery County around 1910. I know one of the EDGLEY men is alive and living in Houston. Let me know if any of this rings a Bell!
Hi Karel, Yes. I downloaded your list. Thank you for providing the info below. Thanks to a message from Steve Alvarez (on TexasCzechs@egroups.com), Robert Roesner went to the Austin County, Texas courthouse and picked up a list of names from two record boxes. Most were Declarations of Intent to become US citizens. In reviewing the list for possible publication I was trying to clarify some of the village names listed. As you know transcribers handwriting is difficult and most had no knowledge of Slavic names or villages and spelled things as they sounded to them. For instance: Brvenec for Bravenec, Vizaviz for Vizovice, atd. Some of the villages I was able to determine as coming from Moravian, or Austrian, Silesia. Others I was unsure of. I hope you will have time to visit the courthouse in Austin County while you are in Texas for the Czech Genealogy Conference July 27-29. The courthouse is in Bellville, on Highway 36, about an hour south of Bryan. While most people know that Fayette County is called the "Cradle of Czech Immigration," few people know that Austin County is the "Birthplace of Czech Immigration in Texas." Posted on: Austin County, Tx Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Austin?read=356 Surname: ENGELKING, VON ROEDER, KLEBERG ------------------------- I am looking for information about the ancestry of Sigismund ENGELKING, who was born on September 16, 1875 in Millheim, AUSTIN county, TX. He was married to Annie Laura JAMES. He died in 1956, and is buried in Comfort, Kendall County, TX. I don't know when the first Engelking ancestor came to Austin County, but three of the children of Lt. Ludwig Sigismund Anton Von Roeder of Prussia came to Cat Spring about 1836. Later, the famous Texas patriot Robert Justus Kleberg accompanied his wife Rosalie Von Roeder from Prussia to Texas, but they were shipwrecked on Galveston Island. Arriving at Cat Spring, they found Rosalie's brothers and sister in dire straits. Joachim and Valeska Von Roeder died of yellow fever. The Von Roeders and the Klebergs moved back and forth between Galveston and Cat Spring, and at one point, left their wives and children alone to fight in the Texas Revolution. Ferdinand F. Engelking, born around 1810, was one of the founders of Millheim, along with Johann Friedercke Ernst and Louis Kleberg. Ferdinand married Caroline L. Von Roeder on August 18, 1842. She seems to have been born about 1823. I can't tell whether Caroline was one of Lt. Sigismund Von Roeder's children or if she was one of the children of Louis Von Roeder, who survived the yellow fever episode, or of Albrecht Von Roeder, who married Louis' widow, Caroline Friedericke Wilhelmine Ernst. During the 1850 census, Ernst, Louis, Albert and "Faliska" "Clayberg" were living next to Ferdinand "Ingleking" and his family Caroline, "Segesmont," age 7, "Federick" age 4, and Charles, age 2. One of the three boys is probably the father of my subject, Sigismund Engelking, who was born in 1875. Although Ferdinand is listed as a "farmer", another Engelking had a section of adjacent land, and there was an Engelking general store in Millheim.

To Wolf and any Erndtebrueck, Germany families in Austin, Washington and Fayette counties of Texas: I am seeking descendats and information on the family history of Frederick WOLF and his wife, Maria Elizabeth TRIETE who emmigrted to Shelby, Texas from Erndtebrueck, Germany, in December 1851 with his brother, my great grandfather Christian Wolf and his wife, Marie Elizabeth WEYAND. The two brothers and their wives had followed a sister, Mary Elizbeth WOLF and her husband, Heinrich MARBURGER who arrived in 1846 aboard the York and first settled at Shelby. Another brother, George, came with the Marburgers. I am also interested in family istories of any other families that settled in Texas from Erntebrueck as well. Others i know of being the VOELKEL, AFFLERBACH, MENNS, SASSMANSHAUSEN, WEYAND, BIRKELBACHS etc who either came from Erndtebureck or other nearyby villages and wre married among each other over the year in Germany. Also, my grandfather Henry WOLFF (he added an extra "F") married Henrietta FIESELER, who I beleive was the daughter of Friederick Heinrich FIESELER and Marie Margrethe STORK of Dielingen. Henrietta supposedly came over about 1878 as a teenager with a step or half-brother and settled somewhere around Austin or Washington counties. Any information on Henrietta FIESELER and who she lived with as a girl before marrying the first Henry WOLFF would be appreciated. Henry WOLFF was a son of Christian and Marie Elizabeth (WEYAND) WOLF
