    3. Posted on: Austin County, Tx Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Austin/430 Surname: MANLY, DANIEL ------------------------- Seeking information from/about descendants of John Manly shown on 1880 Austin Co, TX census living with wife, L. P. (I think, Lucy Pauline), children, Jodie (I think, Josephine), Price, Walter, and granddaughter Laura Daniel. Other sources of information have given me the names of older children - Elizabeth E, James S, Laura J, Hinton B. and George A and that Elizabeth married a Jasper Daniel. I need to know if the Laura mentioned above is their child. (Or is she the child of Laura J. possibly also married to a Daniel?) I have found a Jasper Daniel that I believe to be the same man married to Rhoda and living in Tarrant Co, TX by 1880. The puzzle I am trying to unravel here concerns my maternal great grandmother, Laura Jennie Daniel. I have had no information on her prior to her marriage in 1889 in TX. The name Laura J. above is my first hope of finding her. Can anyone tell me if the gr/dtr above had a middle name? Was her mother deceased by 1880? Date of mother's death? Any details on Laura Daniel - places lived, spouse, etc? Thank you for your effort in responding.. Jackie jpickens@peoplescom.net

    3. There is no listing for Frank John Quinn (or any Quinn for that matter) in the Austin County Cemetery Book. In rereading your message, I noted that you indicated Austin, TX as place of death. If you mean the city of Austin, that is in Travis County, TX and might account for no record in Austin Co. I know it can be confusing and hope this helps.

    1. [TXAUSTIN] TX-Cemeteries
    2. Donna
    3. Hello, I am proud to announce the creation of a new mail list called TX-Cemeteries. This list has the encouragement of Gerron S. Hite, Cemetery Preservation Coordinator in the History Programs Division of the Texas Historical Commission gerron.hite@thc.state.tx.us and he's excited at the opportunity to share his feelings about our cemetery preservation to a large group all at once Others that have been notified, Lee Campbell, Past Representative for the Texas State Genealogical Society {and my cousin} and her friend, Past President of the TSGS Wanda Donaldson. I've let all the following people know about the list and they may join from time to time. Yvonne Pickens, current President of the TSGS. Trey Holt, coordinator for the Texas GenWeb. Wyndell Taylor, creator of GA Cherokee County GenWeb page, {and my cousin}. <Smile> I just have a lot of cousins !!!! The main focus of this list will be to locate and catalogue our endangered cemeteries. Gerron Hite has obtained a new program to help us give our cemeteries "Historic Texas Cemetery Designation". He is willing to help us learn how to accomplish this designation. This will also be a topic for us to address. I am an experienced RootsWeb mail list admin. Currently I manage the mail list for VARoots, SC-Old Pendleton-District, and the Brand surname list. Donna, the lead technician, of the RootsWeb Help Desk has complimented me with a request to join her on the RootsWeb desk, which made me feel really good, but my main focus is our cemeteries. I am also experienced in the survey of large and small cemeteries. In addition to the topics above there will be discussions on how to preserve and restore old monuments with the help of a caretaker with over 25 years experience. To join the mail list simply send a message to TX-Cemeteries-L-request@rootsweb.com with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. If you prefer the Digest send a message to TX-Cemeteries-D-request@rootsweb.com with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. I look forward to seeing you there, Respectfully, donna brand

    1. [TXAUSTIN] Do they do flag holders on vets grave in Texas, do they get them from VA like in PA?
    2. Dora Smith
    3. I tried calling a couple of local offices where I live, in Austin, Texas, since as a couple of people have suggested, surely people in these offices near where I live ought to be able to identify my flag holder that is on my great grandfather's grave in Arlington Cemetery, Upper Darby township, Pennsylvania near Philadelphia - and atleast to tell me whether the insignia is or is not a Ruptured Duck, ca WWII. Now, I've talked to people at the VA offices for Delaware and Philadelphia Counties, Pennsylvania, and to people with teh VFW in Delaware and Philadelphia counties, and with the VFW office in Washington, DC, adn ALL of these people told me that local veterans posts of various sorts, particularly the VFW and the American Legion, order flag holders with various designs and insignia for different wars, etc., from the local VA office for placing on Veterans' graves. The VA offices even told me that if families want to put these veterans flag holders on graves, tehy have to prove the person in the grave was a veteran. The guy in the VFW office in Washington, someone named Neeves, I think, was going to look in his catalog of flag holders for me when he got a chance! (Either he didn't find it or he didn't get a chance and is now out of town for two weeks - an danyhow, he can't see my photo.) OK, I've called both the VA office in Austin, Texas, which is a district office, and the regional VFW office in Austin - and the people in both of these offices haven't a clue what I'm talking about, the VA office here claims they don't order any flag holders, they don't know what a flag holder is, and all these groups put on veterans' graves in Austin is flowers. No flag holders, and no flags. It turned out the person I was talking to at the VFW office was the graphic artist, so I asked to talk to someone else, and she didn't know what I was talking about either. Someone is supposed to call me back when he gets back from errands, and the director is away at a convention. At the VA office, I thought, probably the person I am talking to is a complete idiot, but her supervisor didn't know anything about it, either, never heard of a flag holder before, and tried to be helpful - he's doing some checking around and to call me back. How can they do a national program in the Philadelphia area and know all about it at the national level in Washington, an dnot do it in Austin? Do they actually do flag holders here? If so, how does who get them? Obviously, it is who really is in charge of ordering them who would be most likely to be able to identifiy my flag holder.
