I found this old Austin County archive message and it would not send to the address above. Alexander Young married Margaret A. Granville, d/o Benjamin Granville and Nancy Grimes Benton. Nancy was the daughter of George Grimes and Eurydice Gardner. George Grimes was the son of Jacob Grimes and Catherine Miller d/o Frederick Miller of Rowan County NC. Eurydice Gardner b. 1784 Bertie Co. NC was the daughter of John Gardner and Elizabeth James m. Bertie County NC 1780. Elizabeth was the daughter of Edward James and had brothers named Edwin and Emmanuel. Emmanuel married Patience Gardner, d/o of James Gardner. Miles H. Young married Margaret Granville's sister Abigail Granville and he was born in 1828 in SC. Mathew Alexander Young (Alex) was born in 1840 in Alabama. I am not sure if they were brothers. I have some information that may trace them back to Laurens County SC, to Duncan's Creek. A man by the name of George Young who married a McCrary. I also descend from these McCrary's of Duncan's Creek. This George Young was the son of Major Samuel Young. The Youngs were among the first settlers in this area in the 1750's. It is believed that the whole group may have come from Pennsylvania. Betty Meischen Bellville, Austin County, Texas

I descend from Newitt Cloyd/Cloud. In his grandfather Noah Doddridge's will in Clarke County Alabama, he and his brother are listed as Newt and Hiram Cloud. Noah had dealings with Joshua Cloud in Hancock Co. Ga. Newitt's first son was named Joshua. I am becoming more and more convinced that the last name should have been Cloud. Newitt's daughter Ophelia married Noah Cloud. My ggggrandfather James Stephenson's league of land is where the Byler Ranch is now in Austin County. There were countless land dealings between members of my family and Jeremiah. I would like to know more about his history as I have already included some of it in my account of Austin County Pioneers I am writing. Betty Meischen Bellville, Austin County, Texas

    3. John, The Silar-Lesikar (Schiller, Shiller, Leshikar) families have an annual reunion, usually in Austin County. Descendants of the original Lesikar and Silar still live in the Nelsonville area. As to Konarik, there were a Peter and a Paul Konarik who arrived in Galveston 14 Oct 1900, from the Vsetin area of Moravia (Czech Republic). Records at the Austin County courthouse in Bellville. You should also be able to locate these two families listed in the Handbook of Texas OnLine. You may wish to consider signing up for the TexasCzechs mailing list: http://www.egroups.com/group/texasczechs as you will find some of your kith and kin there. You will also find Koneshecks living in Sealy. One family had/has a plumbing business. Nice folks. Are you in the El Campo area? Sharing. It's What It's All About! Posted on: Austin County, Tx Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Austin/521 Surname: Colleton, Huffman, Kenter ------------------------- Thank you for your response. There were two sisters to Alice Colleton; May Colleton who was confined to a wheel chair and never married and Maude Colleton who married Henry Kenter. They stayed in Bellville, Austin Co. until the time of their deaths. They are all buried at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetary in Bellville. There were no brothers. My mother, Mary Ellen Huffman is the daughter of Alice Colleton. I know that she would dearly love to see the picture of Alice Colleton. Don't know if you have a scanner or I would be willing to pay to have a copy made. I will continue to check the Bios category and will comment/add to in anyway I can. Thanks.

Predominately, they are about the surnames listed above but also there will be histories of others such as Jared Groce, the Cummings family, the Kuykendalls, William Barrett Travis and Elizabet Ney. It belonged to her mother Emma Stephenson. Her parents were James Bell Stephenson and Melissa Maxwell, sister of Amanda Maxwell Hutchins. This must have been the child of Fanny & John Colleton????????? I will have to check the site. I posted stuff to it but there is some kind of glitch in the system because it keeps being returned to me. Betty Meischen

Hutchins and Amanda Maxwell) married my ggrandfather, John Colleton in Bellville. My grandmother was one of three daughters born to John and "Fanny". My grandmother married Thomas Andrew Huffman. Don't have much information. I have a death certificate from Francis Hutchins and some census information (1870 and 1880 I think, I'll have to check) and a photo of Francis (no date). There was also some information on a Thomas Hutchins that appeared in book that showed him being born in Texas in 1823 which would be very early in Texas history but I haven't made any connections yet. From my grandparents (Huffman) on down, I have pretty extensive information. Have you posted your article yet? I can't seem to find it in Austin Co. Bios.

    3. Here are two searchable databases you can look at. This one is Texas deaths from 1964-1998 http://userdb.rootsweb.com/tx/death/search.cgi This one is the Social Security Death Index. http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi I did a couple of searches and it appears to be a common name. I found several close, but none exact. I only did a couple of seaches in each one.
