Smith County has a book "Some Biographies of Old Settlers." Historical, Personal and Reminiscent. Volume I By Sid S. Johnson, 1900: Sid S. Johnson, Publisher, Tyler, Texas. It is much like the Goodspeed Books but it was published locally. I decided to put it in the Smith Co Archives but didn't want to have to type it all myself. I tried scanning it but the old print doesn't scan too well. Anyway I decided to put up a TOC and ask the folks on the TXSMITH List to help me. I put it http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/smith/bios.html up on the web and sent out a list on Sunday, May 13 and got an overwhelming response. Yesterday, Tuesday, I mailed out 10 envelopes and 1 person picked hers up. Another has a copy of the book. I have two more envelopes to mail today. Still have a few chapters to assign but would not be surprised if those don't get assigned today! Just wanted to share with you my little success story!
