This list will allow county coordinators to get daily reports of files uploaded to the USGenWeb Archives. Please read the welcome message, because there are special instructions. Digest mode is not recommended, since the daily message could be over 30kb at times. The list is monitored so that only the daily upload report will be posted there. Darren and David, Please accept my apologies. It sounds like I stepped in a big one. I was not aware that LaRae was anything other than a volunteer with a special interest in the Panhandle area. I will continue to work on Panhandle counties and will rename any files that conflict with the other work in progress. I also want to stress that LaRae did not "tell" me to leave out these counties. She only told me that she was working on them. If my message made it sound like anything else, it was my choice of words - not hers. I am enjoying this work and the praise I recently received was very good encouragement. I am not trying to outdo anyone, I have an ulterior motive. < g > The faster this sort of information gets onto the 'Net, the faster I can find the rest of my roots. And it's just easier (for me) to work on 20 files at a time than one. It's amazing how many more tidbits of information I have gotten from our files than I did from the searchable list. I even found information on a distant cousin who was probably adopted as an infant. He was listed with his birth parents, but the wrong surname. Since the parents' names were spelled wrong, I didn't find Fred until I looked at a county file I had just made. It was a very good feeling. We knew about him, but we didn't know his full name or what had happened to him. Gina
Howdy! Well the fact of the matter is that all of these things have been done under the nose of the current Archivists who are involved. I recieved a scathing letter over a simple mistake that could have happened to anyone due to an upload of a birth file from another of the archivists who are contributing. No harm was done period. This problem was resolved the day it occured by myself and David. I dont know about anyone else, but subversive and dividing tactics should not be allowed on such an important project as we are trusted with. These are records that are important to others, this project is about helping those people out, not seeking some personal recgonition. The archivists should not be dictated what to do by the CC's of the counties that they contribute to, they are indeed a seperate task. We can all work together if we work as a team. There are a lot of counties here in the Panhandle region, your help is greatly appreciated! As I stated before, these counties were in real bad shape, and now they are getting filled with excellent records by all the volunteers. By all of us working together as we have done, we have made Texas soar in the rankings on the GenWeb, and I believe there is even more to follow! David Morgan has done an incredible job, this project has become the shining example of what the UsGenWeb is all about! I for one am honored to be included in this project. Hi all, This is going to cause a problem as far as I am concerned. Reason being, is that I have not been contacted on this matter. I am the manager for these 16 counties, and I do not think it wise to break up the panhandle counties into sections for the sake of one person who has a problem with yours truly. This is not about glory folks, this is about working together to make Texas the best in the GenWeb. This is in fact the 3rd time this lady has tried to undermine the Panhandle Region. When I took over the archives in the Panhandle as asked by David, most of the counties were in total disrepair and David has helped me many times in moving files and other things like obits and the like. Many of the counties, including LaRae's were not touched since 1998. I quickly brought them up to snuff and so forth. I need all of the archivists work on these counties to continue, you have all done a wonderful job, and have increased the archives by so much, that we are ranked quite high these days. For 16 of the Texas counties to be excluded from your work is ridiculous. Thanks! -Darren McCathern ----- Texas Panhandle Region USGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/panhandle.htm Coordinator Hall County Texas http://www.rootsweb.com/~txhall
I have spoken with a nice lady named LaRae who is working on all the birth, marriage, and death records for the counties listed below. I told her I won't do anything else with "her" counties and thought I would pass this along. She has already accomplished a great deal and I accidently overwrote one of her files. There is no reason for us to duplicate her work, she's doing a great job. These are the 16 counties in the Panhandle that she would like to archive if it won't cause problems. Armstrong County Carson County Collingsworth County Dallam County Deaf Smith County Donley County Gray County Hansford County Hartley County Hemphill County Hutchinson County Lipscomb County Moore County Ochiltree County Oldham County Potter County Randall County Roberts County Sherman County Wheeler County Gina
