forwarded from the LYONS-L http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/lobby/rc/index.html The Index to Republic Claims on Microfilm About the Republic Claims Project The Republic Claims series includes claims for payment, reimbursement, or restitution submitted by citizens to the Republic of Texas government from 1835 through 1846. It also includes files relating to Republic pensions and claims against the Republic submitted as public debt claims after 1846. The records include supporting documents such as vouchers, financial accounts, military records, receipts, notes, or letters. These historic records from the Republic Era have been microfilmed to preserve the highest image quality, and the entire series has been meticulously indexed by staff in the Archives and Information Services Division. The Republic Claims series consists of four groups of payments made for services rendered during the period 1835-1846. These groups are the Audited Claims, Republic Pensions, Public Debt Claims, and Unpaid Claims. Because the actual Republic Claims are extremely fragile, access to the records is restricted to high-quality microfilmed copies of the files. This Online Index provides an alphabetical list of indexed names with corresponding microfilm Reel and Frame numbers where the indexed name appears in one or more Claims files. The microfilm reels are available through Interlibrary Loan and, to view in person, at the Genealogy Collection of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Microfilming and indexing for the Republic Claims project were made possible by two generous grants from the Summerlee Foundation.
