Evening Angelina County Researchers, I have joined your list to be sure you know about a wonderful new resource. It is a project called "Migrations" and I am the coordinator of the Texas site at http://homepages.go.com/~lc123/migrations/index.html There is an Angelina County link from the Texas site but as of this date the only thing I have is a request for someone to host that county and a link to an 1895 map of the county. If you are interested in being a host for this county, please let me know. There is presently no Angelina County data posted to the Migrations project. I hope you will take a look at the main page http://www.migrations.org/ for more details and decide to submit your data to this fine new resource. I hope to hear from each of you. Tell me what you think of this project and if you have any suggestions, I'm listening! Regards, -- LColey Tarrant Co Texas A list of genealogy and history related sites I maintain can be found here: http://homepages.go.com/~lc123/lc123.html
American WWI Mothers' Pilgrimage, 1930 http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/4224.htm In the late 1920s the War Department of the United States compiled a list of mothers and widows of deceased soldiers killed in World War I and offered to send them to their loved one's final resting place in Europe. This database contains the names those women who were entitled to make the pilgrimage, as shown by department records on 15 November 1929. Each record provides the name of widow or mother, city and state of residence, and relationship to the deceased. Additionally, information regarding the decedent's name, rank, unit, and cemetery is provided. forwarded from the LYONS-L http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/lobby/rc/index.html The Index to Republic Claims on Microfilm About the Republic Claims Project The Republic Claims series includes claims for payment, reimbursement, or restitution submitted by citizens to the Republic of Texas government from 1835 through 1846. It also includes files relating to Republic pensions and claims against the Republic submitted as public debt claims after 1846. The records include supporting documents such as vouchers, financial accounts, military records, receipts, notes, or letters. These historic records from the Republic Era have been microfilmed to preserve the highest image quality, and the entire series has been meticulously indexed by staff in the Archives and Information Services Division. The Republic Claims series consists of four groups of payments made for services rendered during the period 1835-1846. These groups are the Audited Claims, Republic Pensions, Public Debt Claims, and Unpaid Claims. Because the actual Republic Claims are extremely fragile, access to the records is restricted to high-quality microfilmed copies of the files. This Online Index provides an alphabetical list of indexed names with corresponding microfilm Reel and Frame numbers where the indexed name appears in one or more Claims files. The microfilm reels are available through Interlibrary Loan and, to view in person, at the Genealogy Collection of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Microfilming and indexing for the Republic Claims project were made possible by two generous grants from the Summerlee Foundation.
I have the 1850 Angelina co. census and I am willing to do look ups for anyone interested. I do however ask that you be as specific as possible when asking for someone and please put the county name in the subject line. I am doing look ups for 42 email groups in 34 counties in 10 different states so things can get confusing if I dont have the subject line correct. I will get back to you with the results as soon as I can, please try to be patient with me. Thanks. Lesley (Baird) Prey lesley@eznet.net (originally from Cleburne, Texas) now in Batavia, New York. I have just joined the page. I am looking for any info on the list of families I will name. My 2nd g-grandfather brought his family to Angelina county in 1877, His name Joshua A Sharp, his wife was Mary Bussey Sharp They came in an ox drawn wagontrain from Clarke county Al. Upon arriving in Angelina my great grandfather, Julius Francis (Frank)Sharp married a girl whose family had made the trip with them her name is Mary Jane Roberts the daughter of Elisha and Martha May Roberts. Joshua's other sons spread to the wind but Frank stayed in Angelina, settling in Huntington close to Elisha Roberts family. Joshua Sharp settled in Shawnee Prairie, and raised the smaller children there. My grandfather off Frank is named Allen Edmond Sharp in 1910 he married my grand mother Rose Anna Conners, the daughter of Christopher Cicero Conner, who was the son of Lewis Conner bn 1804 in NC. Rose Anna's mother was a Mary Emily (Emma) Keen. I am not sure if this is her maiden name or another marriage name . My dad is Frank Lee (Horace) Sharp. I would like to have any info available through this page for the people named, and perhaps I will be able to help some of you. Richard Sharp

THERE IS STILL TIME TO REGISTER AND ATTEND THIS SEMINAR! Walk-ins welcome before 9:00 am. There are plenty of seats left. I want to remind everybody on the lists for Angelina County, Texas, and its neighboring counties about the upcoming VIRGINIA RESEARCH SEMINAR at Angelina College, in Lufkin, Texas, on Saturday, October 16, 1999. Unless all your ancestors came late enough for Ellis Island (1892), if you get back far enough in your research just about everybody has somebody who came through Virginia. Vendors are welcome. Call ahead for space. Speaker will be the well known Mary McCampbell Bell of Arlington, Virginia. Price is $45.00 which includes continental breakfast, and break snacks, and a salad and sandwich buffett lunch in the college cafeteria. She is an excellent nationally known speaker and it cost to get her to East Texas from Virginia. She will present four one hour and 15 minutes sessions on Migrations out of early Virginia to other regions and the use of Virginia records including deeds and patents, probate records and court order books and tax records with very informative and detailed handouts. Program begins at 9:00 a.m. In my other genealogy life, I teach genealogy and organize these special genealogy events at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas, a two year community college 100 miles or a two hour drive north up Hwy 59 from Houston, Texas. While a lot of colleges are teaching continuing education/hobby courses in genealogy now, Angelina College is the only college in Texas that we know about and probably the only one between Alabama and Utah that is bringing in special speakers for fall and spring seminars and holding a three day summer conference. The dates for next summer's conference are Thurs-Sat, July 27-29. Theme is expected to be Researching the mid-1800's, the Civil War Era, if I can get enough speakers on that topic and maybe some re-enactors together. If you would like to be on the mailing list please let us know. If we do not have a good turnouts for these programs, college could decide not to sponsor them anymore. I have some areas well covered and almost nobody in some of the adjoining counties where there are apparently no local genealogy societies. Dates for the spring seminar are Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1, 2000. Speaker will be Rhonda R. McClure of Florida with a variety of topics. Some speakers will speak on Friday night and some will only speak on Saturday. Mrs. McClure will speak on Friday night; Mrs Bell does not. Mrs. McClure's Friday night topics will be Organization and migrations. Saturday topics will be one session on New England research and three sessions on using computers and the internet. For more information Contact: Community Services, Angelina College, P. O Box 1768, Lufkin, Texas, 75902-1768 1-409-633-5206. The name of the lady who does registration is Susan. e-mail fkanke@angelina.cc.tx.us fax is 1-409-639-3863 Seats are still available. Walk-ins are welcome on a space available basis the morning of the seminar. You can register the morning of the conference, but it is best to call ahead so that you will have a lunch reservation. Late Registration is from 8-8:45 am with the program beginning at 9 am. with a one hour break for lunch, 12-1. If you are interested in speaking at a future conference, send a resume and a list of topics with summaries on which you speak. Speakers are by inviation. Let us hear from you if you have suggestions for future speakers or topics. We need a good turnout for these events or college could decide not to sponsor them in the future. Greetings to all, If you had ancestors who ever lived in Pike Co., AL, we hope you will submit information about them to the Pike Co. Heritage book project. There is no cost to submit information about your ancestors for inclusion in this book. This is the biggest genealogy project Pike Co., AL has ever undertaken, under Heritage Publishing Company, & we know that many, many families from Pike County moved to Texas last century. Some left signs in their yards saying "GTT" & all their neighbors knew they had "Gone to Texas." For further information about this project, please e-mail me at orion@p-c-net.net. If you had ancestors in Pike Co., AL, please let them be included in this book! If you have infor- mation but don't want to write it yourself, please let us know & someone can do the writing for you. Thank you very much. -- Dorothy Ann Folmar Pike Co., AL
