    1. [TXANGELI] "Mattie" McNeil Rowin
    2. Paula White
    3. Mattie McNeil was my ggf's 1st wife. GGF was Dosson Rowin and they were married Aug. 11, 1888. They had a daughter, Allie Rowin, born May 21, 1889. Dosson Rowin left his family before Sept. 22, 1890 as I have a letter written to Dosson in Hollis TX by DA Cochran in Ora, with news that Mattie and the baby were well and a comment that his saddle had not been sold yet, but would take care of it. Dosson supposedly walked out, leaving everything (and everyone) behind. He comes from a family of roamers. Mattie wrote him on Sept. 26, 1890 from Homer. She also wrote letter dated July 16, 1918, postmarked Tulsa, OK (a sad letter). Dosson married his 2nd wife (my ggm), Docia Cochran, on Dec. 3, 1899 in Angelina Co. They lived in Ora until sometime between 1910 and 1916. I have not been able to find Mattie or Allie on the census records for 1900, 1910 nor 1920 in either Angelina Co TX or Tulsa Co. OK. The Angelina 1880 Census lists a Martha McNeil, age 10 with her mother Mary J McNeil, age 32 (who later married R.B. Anderson in 1897). I'm not sure if this is my "Mattie" or not. There are 2 Mary Jane McNeil's listed in same 1880 census, living next door to each other, both age 14. Mary E daughter of Cassandra and step daughter of Jas. P. McAnelly. Mary E, daughter of John B. McNeil and Olive (this Mary listed as "Lizzie" in 1870 census). A Mary E McNeil married Charles Carrell Jan. 3, 1886, but I don't know which of these Mary's she was, or if one of them is my "Mattie". I would like to find the parents of Mattie McNeil Rowin and, most particularly, Allie Rowin - my late grandmother's half-sister. Any info or leads anyone can provide will be appreciated. Paula White

    1. [TXANGELI] TX-Cemeteries
    2. Donna
    3. Hello, I am proud to announce the creation of a new mail list called TX-Cemeteries. This list has the encouragement of Gerron S. Hite, Cemetery Preservation Coordinator in the History Programs Division of the Texas Historical Commission gerron.hite@thc.state.tx.us and he's excited at the opportunity to share his feelings about our cemetery preservation to a large group all at once Others that have been notified, Lee Campbell, Past Representative for the Texas State Genealogical Society {and my cousin} and her friend, Past President of the TSGS Wanda Donaldson. I've let all the following people know about the list and they may join from time to time. Yvonne Pickens, current President of the TSGS. Trey Holt, coordinator for the Texas GenWeb. Wyndell Taylor, creator of GA Cherokee County GenWeb page, {and my cousin}. <Smile> I just have a lot of cousins !!!! The main focus of this list will be to locate and catalogue our endangered cemeteries. Gerron Hite has obtained a new program to help us give our cemeteries "Historic Texas Cemetery Designation". He is willing to help us learn how to accomplish this designation. This will also be a topic for us to address. I am an experienced RootsWeb mail list admin. Currently I manage the mail list for VARoots, SC-Old Pendleton-District, and the Brand surname list. Donna, the lead technician, of the RootsWeb Help Desk has complimented me with a request to join her on the RootsWeb desk, which made me feel really good, but my main focus is our cemeteries. I am also experienced in the survey of large and small cemeteries. In addition to the topics above there will be discussions on how to preserve and restore old monuments with the help of a caretaker with over 25 years experience. To join the mail list simply send a message to TX-Cemeteries-L-request@rootsweb.com with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. If you prefer the Digest send a message to TX-Cemeteries-D-request@rootsweb.com with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. I look forward to seeing you there, Respectfully, donna brand

    3. I'm new to this list, and I have a very unusual request. I hope you can help me. I am researching the Parsons. George Everett Parsons was an itinerant preacher that spent some time in Groveton. I believe he died there after the turn of the century. Does anyone have cemetery records, etc.? He had a son Frank Parsons. This is the unusual story that has past down in our family. After the death of his father, Frank was at the train station when an explosion of sorts occurred. Frank disappeared. It was assumed that he was blown up, so his mother-in-law Lena Harding Parsons, collected the insurance money on his accidental death. Later, Frank showed up, so Lena had to pay the money back. My question is, has anyone heard of this explosion at the train station, probably before 1920? Is there old newspapers on microfilm that I could look through, if no one has any knowledge of this? Another question: Does anyone have any knowledge of this Parsons family? Lena and George's children were Richard Ewing Parsons, Everett Parsons who married a man named Rapp, and another son who became a doctor (I've temporarily forgotten his first name). Thanks in advance for any help. Jeanie Nance ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

    1. [TXANGELI] GATES-BENNETT Marriage
    2. In looking at the TX birht records, I find a Eugene Valentine Gates and Ydell Bennett married and having a son in 1940 in Angelina County, TX. Since my great grandfather had this name and I do not know who this person is, I would be interested if someone in Lufkin could look up the marriage in the index for the county. there is a great uncle on my family research listed as Valentine, who died young. I'm wondering if died young meant after he had sired a son or two. Eugene and Ydell would probably have been married in the post 1935 to 1940 era since the first child is 1940. Any help on this family would be most appreciated. Eugene and Ydell moved to Orange County and then Dallas county where other chldren were born later in the 1940's. Many thanks for any help, Barbara in Baltimore

This database contains the names those women who were entitled to make the pilgrimage, as shown by department records on 15 November 1929. Each record provides the name of widow or mother, city and state of residence, and relationship to the deceased. Additionally, information regarding the decedent's name, rank, unit, and cemetery is provided.
