I would be interested in any information or comments you may have concerning the HOPSON in Lufkin, TX. I have yet to establish a relationship with the HOPSON of Angelina Co., TX and the HOPSON that settled in Tyler Co., TX. However, I do have some first names that suggest the two may have a relationship. I have researched HOPSON in Georgia, Virginia, and North Carolina, and it appears this relationship does exist prior to their migration to Texas.

Posted on: Angelina Co., TX Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Angelina/10791 Surname: Almond, Pratt, Basden, Harrell ------------------------- Lynn, William G. Almond's parents were married in Nashville TN and he was raised in Grundy Co.TN. William served in Alabama during the Civil War. After the war he moved to Texas. He was first married to Rachel Basden, then Fannie Harrell, and last to Adaline Josephine "Pennie" Pratt Springer. We believe that all his marriages took place in Texas. Rufus Greene and Amos Franklin Almond do not appear to be part of this family. William's father Thaddeus Stevens Almond was born in VA and in TN by the late 1830s. His mother Mary Ann Gordon was born in TN and her parents in South Carolina. We do not know if Thaddeus had brothers or sisters and do not know his parents names.

Posted on: Angelina Co., TX Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Angelina/10785 Surname: Lang, Sumrall, Parker, Isaacks ------------------------- Hello Houston, I met Billy at the Conroe Genealogical Society meeting this month and he has some ideas about Mary A.'s maiden name. I looked up the name in Angelina County and believe we may be on to something. The 1850 Angelina County census shows Valentine (born Georgia) and Mary (born Mississippi)living next door to Alexander SUMRALL with wife and 3 children. Alexander born SC, Susannah (Parker) Sumrall, his wife born NC and their 5 children born in Mississippi. In checking Angelina County History Book written in 1991/92 there is a write up on Alexander and his 5 childlren. One, Mary Ann, born 1830 is shown as a member of the family, but with no other information on her. There is a great deal of information on the Sumrall family. In searching the net there is also a great deal of information on the family back to 1700 Virginia. However no one seems to have any information on Mary Ann. In checking the 1850 marriage's for Angelina County I find a Valentine LONG with a wife Mary A. REESE married Angelina County TX 20 March 1851 --- I have a problem with 3 things on this: 1 the person compiling the information added a "J" as the middle name for Valentine and the marriage year is off by one year as the census says they married "within the year" and the major problem when I crossed referenced Mary A. Reese she is shown to have married a complete different name (I am sorry now that I did not take his name down!) I think if someone could look at the original records something might be found here. Billy did some research back in Georgia or Mississippi and found Sumrall's and Lang's not too far from each other. These Sumrall's connect to the Isaacks that were in East Texas in the 1850's and had been in Georgia, Mississippi and North and South Carolina and Louisiana. What do you think of this and do you have any ideas on our next step. Betty

I know a bit about the Mantooth family but very little about Callie. I knew two of three sisters of the next generation, who were Annie Jewel Mantooth Royal and Rennie Mae Mantooth Hickman, both fine and lovely ladies recently deceased. They had another sister but she died when still a young woman. I suggest you contact Mary Jane West, who is that sisters granddaughter. She can probably help.
