BIG ELKHART CREEK. Big Elkhart Creek rises a mile west of Salmon in southwestern Anderson County (at 31°34' N, 95°30' W) and runs southwest for 22½ miles, through southwestern Anderson County and northwestern Houston County, to its mouth on the Trinity River, 1½ miles northwest of Halls Bluff in Houston County (at 31°22' N, 95°41' W). The stream is intermittent in its upper reaches. It traverses gently sloping to moderately steep terrain surfaced by sand, clay, and loam that support occasional heavy woods of mixed pine and hardwoods.
