C. COLE in the following item taken from the Van Zandt County, TX Van Zandt County Genealogical Society Website. This item is about my Great GrandFather. My COLE clan moved from AL to Van Zandt Couty, TX after the civil war. Most COLEs in this part of East TX are kin to me. Nacholas David COLE Sr is my GGF; his son Nicholas David COLE, Jr. is my Grandfather. My 2GGF is Noel COLE. Noel was born in Sumter District SC about 1804. He and his family moved to Macon County GA; then to Pike county AL; then to Washington/Choctaw County AL; then to VZC TX. Noel's Father was John M. COLE, Sr. who was born in NC (county unknown) in 1774. He is my brick wall. It is definitely possible that we may be related. Many families split multiple ways from PA, NJ, MD, VA, NC, and SC, It was common to have one branch go to TN while other branches went to NC, SC, GA, AL etc. "UNCLE" NICHOLAS COLE NO MORE Wills Point Chronicle January 15, 1914 NICHOLAS COLE "Uncle" Nicholas Cole, one among the oldest citizens of this county, has crossed the "mystic" river. At the home of his son, M. C. Cole, in the Tundra community, 10:30 a. m. Jan. 5, 1914, this old veteran breathed his last on earth. He said that he was ready to go and that all was peace with him. As one falling into a natural slumber, "Uncle" Nick" fell asleep, only to awake on the resurrection morn. The body was laid to rest in what is known as the Carter cemetery, beside a companion who preceded him to the tomb exactly 22 years to a day. Revs. R. T. Shinn and V. L. Davis performed burial services. Nicholas Cole was born in South Carolina on Independence day (July 4,) 1827, and was therefore in his 87th year when the final summons called him away. In early life he moved to Georgia and later to Alabama, and from thence to Van Zandt county in 1869 and to what is now Mount Pisgah community in 1874, where has since been his home. Deceased was a veteran of the Civil war, a member of the Congregational church and in younger days a first class farmer and useful citizen. Uncle Nicholas was married twice, his last companion and his three sons surviving. The sons are: M.C. Cole, Tundra; N. D. Cole, Edgewood; and Elbert Cole of Jones county. -- Edgewood Enterprise.
