    3. If the Hughes, 10-27-1924 below is a death, then Clayton Library, Houston has most of the microfilm on TX deaths up to 1970. 25 cents; instead of $26.00 at the state or county facilities. 3. Phyllis, I knew that the Dallas Library had the Texas Death Index & the Certificates, and that Clayton had the index, but was not aware that they also had the certificates for the whole state. I knew that they have the Houston/Harris County certificates for a certain time span. It is so much cheaper to copy them your self. We went to Dallas in April and out of 23 that we were looking for, we found 18. Most of the ones we could not find were either very early (1906-09) or in the 70's & 80's, which are not on film yet. 3. Greetings, Yes, Clayton Genealogical Library, 5300 Caroline, Houston phone 832-393-2600 has several drawers of DC in Cabinet # 89, upper floor, last row of file cabinets near the windows, down the right isle from stairs to back of upper floor. The TX Death Index is in the top drawer. Certificates are below in Drawer # 2-? About 6-8 drawers of microfilm; all in same cabinet. The library houses all the death certificates on microfilm in this cabinet, with most being there from 1903 to 1970. As we discuss this, more DC microfilm rolls are coming daily, being processed, and put in the cabinet. Each time I go to the library, I find more have been put in. Also, I have been looking for one DC for 1948 on a common name but could not find it, after looking at the index for various spellings for four different times. I just knew there must be one, as the death occurred in a fairly large city in TX, so I made one more stab at it, NOT using the index, but knowing the TX, county, year, and month, I found it in about one minute after I loaded the microfilm on the reader. There is was, but is not to be found on the index. Don't forget to try different ways; those humans that index items, do make mistakes. Enjoy the DC index and microfilm @ Clayton next time you go there. Phyllis V.
