This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Johnston and Morris Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XiB.2ACI/1628 Message Board Post: Hello, I have been looking for W. H. Johnston. I don't know what the W. H. stands for, but I know he and Sarah Elizabeth Morris were married April 3, 1872. I know for sure that she and her family came from Maury Co., Tennessee around 1860 to Tennessee Colony, Anderson Co. He was supposed to have been from Tenn. also, but The only thing I know for sure is when they were married in Anderson Co. They later settled in Ben Hur, Limestone Co. He may have been a school teacher? Their Children were Walter Eugene and Lillian Johnston Day. I would sure appreciate any info anyone might have, Thanks, Jill Oliver
Jill, It appears that we have collided with the same BrickWall. In fact you have added another piece to the puzzle for me, the marriage date, for W. H. and Sarah Elizabeth. Walter Eugene and Mattie Sikes Johnston are my grandparents. Sarah E. and her sister Mary Jane Morris Airheart are buried in the same plot with Walter E. and Mattie in the Kirk cemetery. Some of our family think W. H.'s first name was Wheat. But I have found no records to substantiate that. We cannot locate Grandmother Johnston's Family Bible. Sarah, Walter, and Lillian are in Tennessee Colony in the 1880 census, but W. H. is not listed. H. C. [or H. G.] and Mary J. Airheart and family are also in Tennessee Colony in the 1880 census. Verbal history has Sarah Elizabeth, Walter E., and Lillian moving to Limestone County along with Mary J. and her family. I can't find a date for the move, but I think they moved somewhere near Horn Hill, but my records are so "safely stored" that I can't get to them just now. Walter E. and Mattie were said to have met at a dance in Ben Hur or Horn Hill and we know they lived in Ben Hur after their marriage in ?1899?. Without either the 1890 census or the Family Bible it is very difficult to pin down data on the family between 1880 and 1899. I haven't had time to search Anderson County and Limestone County land records. Perhaps a cousin from the Morris, Airheart, or Johnston families will see these posts and fill in some more of the blanks. Thanx for the marriage info. Hi Charlotte, I'm so glad you saw this and wrote, I e-mailed you a while back using the address from your old post, and I guess it did not get to you. I don't know if you remember me, I'm Tom and Ethel Johnston's grandaughter . I still live in their old house in Ben Hur next to Elwood and Patsy. Their daughter Teri also lives there now. I have looked and looked, and feel like it is probably right under my nose! There are so many misspellings and typos on these old records. I wanted to if I had any info you might not have, or visa versa. I'm trying to get what I can together so I can upload it so that others might be able to work on it too. It's really been driving me nuts. I know Elwood, Kent, and I think Jerry are also looking. I didn't know for sure that it was W. H., till I saw it on the marriage Cert. My daughter Frankie hope to go back to Anderson County very soon and spend all day looking. I've been using "Family Tree Maker" 2006 to try to get together all I can, if you can t! hink of any thing I can try, please let me know. My phone number is 254-749-9793, I would love to hear from you anytime. Thanks, Jill Johnston Oliver jjo41959@yahoo.com 1149 FM 339 S.
