The "Ira Griffin" name caught my eye. My Ira Griffin HAMILTON came to Anderson Co. in 1857. Lived at Brushy Creek, married Elizabeth (unk, possibly Henderson) in SC before coming to TX, they had two children b SC: William Ira HAMILTON b 1848, and Sarah Jane b 1851. There was a Baptist(?) preacher in the Pendleton/ 96th Dist. area of SC who was named IRA GRIFFIN. I wondered if my Ira Griffin HAMILTON was named for him. Knowing there were other Ira Griffins in Anderson Co. is very interesting to me. My WILLINGHAMs include Jeremiah WILLINGHAM & wife Susan who had a daughter, Elizabeth WILLINGHAM b 1802 GA, Glynn Co., Brunswick, died aft 1860 in Freestone Co. Tx. She m 1818 MS, Perry Co. or New Orleans LA to George Washington Harrison (b 1781 SC, d 1857 Freestone Co. TX) They had 14 Harrison children between 1820 & 1846 in Rankin Co. MS. All children died in TX, I think--don't have records on a couple of them. I have other HARRISONS in Anderson Co. --don't know if they are part of same family. Linda Sykes
Your mention of a Harden great grandfather in Anderson County caught my eye. Below is a bit of info about my great-great grandfather who was in Anderson County by 1850. Most of my info is from census Samuel D. HARDIN/EN/ING b. Aug., 1822 TN By 1850 I find him in Anderson Co., TX in the household of his sister, Medlina?(Melinda), and brother-in-law, James William PETERS/PETTUS. Also there is his mother Margaret R.or B. I found in the 1840 census of Bedford Co., TN a Margaret HARDIN as head of household with a daughter in house. These ages fit "my Margaret" and her daughter. In the 1860 census for Anderson Co., TX I find him married to Catherine?(possibly MOSLEY/MOSELEY since on the 1850 census, a Catherine MOSLEY/MOSELEY was the only unmarried "Catherine" in the county in the correct age range and was shown about 3 households away from where Sam lived in 1850.On the 1860 census they are shown with 4 children with birth years from about 1852 to 1860. Did Catherine die from complications of the birth of the last child? By the 1870 census of Anderson Co., TX he was married to Mary Isabella WYLIE, and they are shown with 2 children in the household of Thomas GARLAND. I believe they later parented 3 other children. Mary died 12-31-1872 after they relocated to Erath Co., TX.. The 1880 and 1900 census show him in Erath Co., TX with yet another wife, Jemima Jane GAILEY and I show they produced 7 children. I didn't find him after 1900, so I suppose he died between 1900-1910. My great-grandmother was a child of the first marriage. With this many wives and children, there should be at least another descendant searching him!! Any chance of a connection? I will look up the first name on old papers I have around. Several years ago I had an antique shop and sometimes bought the leftovers from estates. A large box about the size of a washing machine had lots of letters and old papers in it. I saw Palestine, TX on some of the envelopes and became excited as I found papers that involved my grandfather Cole and my great grandfather Harden who was a merchant in Frankston. The saw mill was managed by my grandfather and was owned by the Platter Family. My aunt still lived in Frankston and she showed me where everyone lived. How did this stuff get to me ? I cannot explain but I know there was a reason. I will probably donate it to the Historical Society as there are Deeds, letters about when oil was discovered there and much more.I will look for something on you family. Linda

Mrs. Elizabeth Neel, who just died in Palestine, did lots of work in the ACGS when it was active, and I'm sure she had done lots of work on her family, although Neel would have been her married name. You might check with the library in Palestine at Cedar Street. Contact Karla Lang in the genealogy department. My name is Frances Wedin McMullen. Your information intrigues me. My family of Neel's came from SC to Ralph, Tuscaloosa Co., AL to Nacogdoches Co., TX to Anderson Co., TX. William W. & Amelia Leavell Neel were from SC and died in Ralph, AL. (I have the possible name of Amelia's grandmother as Sarah Griffin? m. to Robert Leavell, 1700's in SC.) Their son Jessie Calhoun Neel & wife Lavina Snider came to Nacogdoches Co, TX. They named a son, Ira Griffin Neel/Neal (the name changed spelling with him, although not his brother Daniel.) I have always been curious about the Griffin middle name since I knew that there were Griffins all along the trail. Do you have any clue about the relationship? Do you have Lavina Snider in with the Griffins? Her father & mother were William Snider & Mary Sanford. They were from SC and died in Panola Co., TX. They named a son W. Griffin Snider (Lavina's brother). I don't have Mary Sanford's parents. Of course the name could be honora! ry & they were just friends with the Griffins. I would appreciate any information on the mystery. Thanks in advance.
