    3. >In answer to: "Where is the Carnegie Library located? I was not aware of this book." Carnegie Library is at 1101 N. Cedar St. in Palestine--it is the Paletine Public Library, actually, I guess. My dear aunt always called it the Carnegie Library because Andrew Carnegie gave a huge amount of money to libraries all across the country (one of which was the Palestine Library) and somewhere I got the notion that it was actually named the CARNEGIE LIBRARY. But I see on the library card I have, it does not say "Carnegie" anywhere. There is a genealogy room that has a wealth of books, family files, CD databases, etc. --very well-equipped, and friendly helpful staff. Hours: 12-8 Mon & Thurs; 10-8 Tues&Wed.; 10-6 Fri ; 10-4 Sat . The wonderful Death/Obituary/Cemetery book that I found in the Palestine Public Library is a compilation done by a former mayor of Palestine--oh, darn, his name escapes me at present, and he deserves so much gratitude for this loose leaf book. He went through newspapers, court house records, cemetery records, etc. --funeral home records, too, perhaps.--listing the names alphabetically with date of death, (birth too in most cases), where they are buried in Anderson Co. and such notes as "wife of", "son of", etc. It is an extensive work, and such a boon to people researching families in Anderson Co. What a service he has given to his community! Linda Sykes

    2. Permission was granted to pass on: Gladys The following is from David Morgan, the TxGenWeb coordinator. Hi Everyone: The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com Behind the password protection are links to the free genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own. In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to surrender a credit card or bank account number. You have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this surprise you? One person who recently fell for the come-on had his/her account dinged not once, but twice. It is time to remind folks on your state and county mailing lists about these scoundrels. It has been a couple of years since we have mentioned this. 2. Hello! I am looking for information on my Barnes family who were in Anderson County by 1900. My ggrandfather's name was William Wylie Barnes. His family was in Van Zandt County, TX on the 1870 and 1880 census. His parents were Henry C. and Mary Barnes. William's siblings were Mary Ella Victoria Barnes, James Albert Barnes, and Laura Barnes. I cannot find any sign of William's parents in 1900. His siblings, with the exception of Laura, are all found in Palestine, Anderson County. I would really appreciate any information that might be out there on these people. Thanks!
