    1. [[TXANDERS]] Palestine Cemeteries
    2. Beverly Odom
    3. Jack Selden, former mayor of Palestine, is in the process of updating all Anderson County cemetery records. Several of the smaller cemeteries throughout the county have been canvassed and the records have already been updated, but the larger ones need to be canvassed section by section. At this time, he is focusing on the cemeteries in the city of Palestine. If you live near Palestine, and would like to help canvass the cemeteries and record the data, please contact Jack at [email protected] or 903-729-1606. The goal is to have all the canvassing completed before the weather gets too hot. Beverly Bailey Odom [email protected]

    1. [[TXANDERS]] Nancy GARNER b.1836 AL
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: GARNER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XiB.2ACI/1329 Message Board Post: Nancy GARNER is my gggrandmother. She appears on the 1860 TX Census in McLennan Co. as wife of Peter SIMONS. They married 19 Aug 1852 in Anderson Co., TX. I know all about Peter but have nothing more on Nancy. What I have done in my search: I looked at all GARNER families in TX in 1850—none of them had an Alabama connection—and she is not there. I looked in AL and could not find her there either. Several people have contacted me over the years to tell me about a Nancy GARNER who they believe is the same one, however, the "other" Nancy is always the same one and her dates do not match with my Nancy. I recently had a stroke of inspiration to look at wills to see if she was listed as an inheritor on her father's will. I cannot find any wills listed. What I did find was on the 1840 TX Census in Houston Co.---parent county of Anderson, which I had not thought to look at previously—one listing for a GARNER & HOW (not in alphabetic order). No first names. Under "Property" it indicated they owned "2 TL in AL" "2 town lots in Alabama"—my first Alabama connection! So I looked in Alabama to see if I could find a GARNER and a HOW in the same county. In the 1831--39 Decenary Census Index, I found a Thomas GARNER and a Samuel B. HOWE in Mobile Co. I also found a marriage record for a Thomas GARNER to Mary QUINER on 12 Nov 1835—timely for Nancy's birth, IF she belongs to them. In the book "The First Settlers of Houston County Texas" I found a Thomas GARNER as one of the first petitioners on 22 April 1837 for the county to be formed—but no HOW(E).

    1. [[TXANDERS]] Lists of Korean & Vietnam Casualties
    2. Vince Leibowitz
    3. Friends: I want to make you aware of two interesting lists on the National Archives & Records Administration Website. The first is a list (by county or town) of Korean War casualties. The address for it is: http://www.archives.gov/research_room/research_topics/korean_war_casualt y_lists/tx_by_town.html There is also a list of files on casualties from the Vietnam War on the NARA Website. You will find it at this link: http://www.archives.gov/research_room/arc/wwii/army_aaf_honor_list/texas .html I know that many of us are familiar with the many county lists of civil war, World War I, and World War II casualty lists, and this is the first time I've found such lists on the web. Also, you may wish to go to www.nara.gov <http://www.nara.gov/> and simply do a search for your county or city to see what comes up. You may be surprised. Sometimes, everything from photos to archive files that were donated pop up. It's worth a check, also with surnames. Sincerely, Vince Leibowitz

    3. William J Stafford and his wife Sarah Stafford are buried in the Price Chapel Cemetery in northern Anderson County. William J Stafford has a CSA marker. This Stafford is not related to me, but just lived in the same area where we were reared. Stafford, Albert E, Born 6 Dec 1881 Died - 16 Aug 1962 (umarked grave, dates from death record, their son) William J Stafford, 39th Miss Inf CSA (no birth or death dates) Sarah Stafford (funeral home stake, no marker - believe her death date is 19 Dec 1939) I am not sure if Sarah's maiden name was Churchwell or Churchill. It is possible her family may be buried in the cemetery, there are many unmarked graves. Sorry, this about all we know about this family. 2. I am looking for any information on my father's family. His name was James Edward Baxter (born in 1919). His father was Edward Buford Baxter who was married to Ethel Mae Warnell. Edward and Ethel are buried in Palestine. I am trying to find Ethel Mae's parents. Most specifically, Her father's full name and her mother's maiden name. I believe Ethel Mae's father had a store near Palestine and that he died in Palestine in the mid 1920's. I think Ethel Mae had a sister named Maud(e) maybe married to a Cretsinger. Unfortunately, I failed to record alot of the family history my father imparted to me before he died. Any help would be appreciated. Because I now live in Florida, I am unable to come to Palestine to do research. Thank you, Kathy Baxter Wallace
